really, really tiny thin mushrooms growing out of casings while incubating... is it ok?
    #6535473 - 02/05/07 11:16 PM (17 years, 1 month ago)

Hey,
I spawned some brf cakes to some horse poo and straw. I put it in the incubator and didnt look at it for about 3 days. I checked it today and there were these really thin, tiny mushrooms growing. There were about 3 total. Did it somehow trigger the fruiting cycle? I checked the temps of the incubator and the max was 84 and the low was 78, but the average was about 80. No light was introduced, except the 1 time I checked it, but it wasnt direct, and it wasnt very long. Will the mycelium continue to colonize after this? Should I do anything?
Thanks

I don't have that much experience, and may be completely wrong. But when I've spawned to hpoo I usually incubate about room temp (70-75) This may or may not have something to do with your findings, but is odd considering shroomies like a drop in temp. Sorry I wasn't much more help. Have a great life!

Are you sure they're not aerial rhizomorphs? Sometimes they stick up like small pins.

Hey again. They might be aerial rhizomorphs, but they had little caps on the end of them and they were about the size and diameter of the little plastic things that hold tags on clothes. I actually thought thats what it was. I just want to know if the mycelium will continue to network itself and cover the spawn.
Thanks

Definitely sounds like healthy mycelium, not pins.
