I need some advice on Opiate withdrawl...
    #6388247 - 12/19/06 08:19 PM (5 years, 5 months ago)

Anyone that has gone through a bad withdrawl, I need some help for what is to come.

Getting meds from the doctor to ease the symptoms isn't an option, and I have some idea of what to expect, (bone aches, insomnia, sweating, sore muscles etc.) as I have gone through minor withdrawl before. The thing is, I have never used this much for this long before and Im really concerned that it's going to be a bad one. Is there anything I can do to make it even a little easier? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I have enough drug left for two days and then Im quitting cold turkey. There is no way for me to get any more so relapse won't be a problem, and Im really motivated to get this monkey off my back.

I have been averaging 100-150mg of Oxycodone a day (snorting) for about six months.

Thanks for any advice =)

You're going to go through hell dude. Anywhere's from 3-10 days probably. It's going to suck; in fact, it'll be the worst thing you've ever gone through. However, tough it out and you'll be feeling better soon...a lot better than you are now. It'll be worth it, trust me. I gotta hit the sack now, but PM me brother, and get my AIM sn, we'll talk. I've been though way too many times before. Had a 4 year battle with heroin, oxycontin and morphine addiciton. I always kicked cold turkey, had a methadone here and there, and some benzos occasionaly which helped a bit...but itstill blew.  Doing it cold turkey will really make you think twice about getting into it again.

Good luck, and hit me up brother...you're going to need support, and you've got it. Sorry I can't talk more tonight, but we'll talk tomorrow.  Stay strong and remember we love you.

:heartpump:

yeah... thats very similar to what i did.. but not for 6 months straight.. probably for about 1 month, every day.

the withdrawl is going to be hard.. your going to be in a corner.. cuddled up, chattering teeth, fever.. hmm.. what else.. prolly going to be extremely depressed (atleast i was)

just hang in there man.. its extremely hard, but if you can do it.. you'll be much better off.

Thank you all for your support. I don't have anyone here to talk to, so I might be going through this with you via The Pub. Im prepared to get sick, I am ready for whatever comes, but I know it's going to be a nasty time.

One question though, with the little bit of Oxy I have left, would it be better to save it and try to use a little to ease things when they get really bad, or should I just finish them as usual and go totally cold turkey?

It's not about getting high anymore, they only stop the onset of withdrawl now. I just wonder if it might be worth it to try and spread the last bit out to help ease the pain...

Yeah, that's about the amount and method that I went through, although I was up to 18 or so months of it. When I quit, I made a plan to ween off, as cold turkeying it was just too much for more than a day or two of hell for me. So of course the body/mental issues were hell, but what got me was the fact that I wasn't getting high anymore. In the day, I'd rail 30 mg is a minute and be as peachy as can be, but the last time I did it I had a quarter of a 20 mg, passed out like a rock for 3 hours, and woke up not wanting to ever pass out like that again. That was 3 years ago on the 3rd. You got this man!! Here's a few other ideas.

1. Bath Salts (Burts Bees treated me nice & Epsom Salts are dirt cheap if you're on a budget

2. Juice fasting helps reduce cell craving. And if you're like me, you won't be feeling much like eating

3. Fresh air. I did every thing I could to push myself between pills, almost as a "F you" to the addiction.

I hope the best for you. Please keep us updated.

I understand the importance of a sponser, man. I have many friends that are struggling with opiate addictions. It makes me sad and angry to see happen to people that I care about. It's not an easy feat, man, but you can do it!! You have to want to. You have to want to for more than just your own good, though. Think about all of those people close to you and think about how your addiction affects their lives. It may not be the cure all, but it is a step. Steps move you forward. Forward is closer towards your goal. Good luck and good night.

opiate withdrawl is bad. I would suggest playing some video games to pass the time, and remember when the paranoia sets in that you are a human with value and that no one controls your mind except you

Video games are really great at this, I will agree! They help because they fill in the hours and minutes that are needed to stay clean.

... Throw them away. You want to quit, right? You can start right now.If you wait a few days till you're feeling real shitty and do more, it will just prolong the withdraw. When I quit H many years ago, I relied on weed and a few sessions of heavy drinking to try and sleep. Not sure how much it helped, but I quit heroin.(I still drink and smoke weed, though )Fight this thing, you can do it. You got good advise from posts above. Many people on this board have kicked their addiction successfully, but unfortunately, we've lost a few also. Be strong, and you'll be clean for the New Year.

Good luck buddy. It's gonna be the hardest thing you've ever done, but it'll be the best thing you've ever done for yourself in the end.

Get a lot of clean sheets ready... you're gonna be drenching the bed. Also, a multivitamin seems to help a little. When you start eating again, spicy foods will help get the endorphins flowing again, and your favorite candy/ice cream helps you feel better too.

Last preparations should be as many things as you can think of that make you feel comfortable basically, because you're gonna need as much distraction as possible from your discomfort.

If you can score some benzos and beer do it. Every time you wake up just pop a coupla valium, xanax or w/e, suck back 2 or 3 beer and pass out, rinse and repeat. Staying awake through it isn't going to make this pass any quicker, best of luck man
