Hello FSP, nice to meet you. By secretions you mean liquid? I had this too and it was fixed by cutting small holes in the bottom of each bag for drainage.

Yes means a kind of antibiotical liquid created from the mycelium that could be auto-suffucant.I preferred left the bag and make a good cold shower every 2 days (RogerRabbit tip for Lentinus edodes blocks..)

LentinulaEdodes said: ^Hope that it is doing well, I have fruited Grifola frondosa before and it looked nothing like any of the pics so far. I only had 2 blocks out of 12 fruit, the rest became smelly and contaminated. And pokermush, that definitely does look like mold on the last pic, it's green! Is it somehting with the colors/my monitor? Those pins are nice too, but I believe they have aborted, have they not?
Hi Lent, I'm sure it isn't mold. It is a gray color, and close-up it doesn't look like mold at all. Something about the picture just makes it look a bit like mold.
I removed the bags after reading the advice in this thread: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/6282292#6282292
I may have killed the maitake in the picture though. I put them outside on New Year's Eve to cold shock and they froze. Oh well, may just turn in to an interesting experiment.
I have a couple smaller blocks that are looking really good, and these I am incubating in a bin that can also serve as a fruiting chamber without disturbing it too much. I can just move the bin to a colder place when it's ready. I'll post results when I have them.

Great Pics. I am just starting out with maitake. I have order LC and inoculated some grain spawn, but is slow growing and I hear that after the jars are colonized it has to sit in a dormant period for 30 days before shocking and fruiting. Have you guys had any experience with these procedures and what are your suggestions for moving to bulk substrate in a 2 gal ziplock, whether or not a casing layer is needed or any other tips I might need to know before I continue....Thanks

This thread is over six years old, I'm not sure if most of these people are still around...
Check out this thread, it's a little more recent.
Maybe this one too. Good luck!
