A friend of mine bought a large bottle of Chimay Bleu, noting that it looked to be a rather fine ale, and that it had a 9% alcohol content (therefore being a very strong beer). It was corked just like a champagne bottle, the cork held down by a wire (and it shot off like a champagne cork too!)
He shared some with me on a couple occasions, and I have to say, despite my usual lack of enthusiasm for beer, I loved the stuff. It's a great ale to drink and savor. Definitely not a very affordable beer to drink regularly though, with the large bottle (a smidge less than a pint) costing about $8.
I just thought that was interesting.

The key to long life is drinking good beer and wine! Chimay makes good stuff. Delirium Tremens is pretty good, also a good play on a alchoholic condition called DT. Rouge makes good brew, Magic Hat another good drink.
i rather spend 8 dollars on a good beer then 3.50 for a six of Pabts.

Yup, I'd rather get a 6 pack of Magic Hat #9 or Newcastle for 10 bucks any day but a lot of times my wallet will only for a 4 dollar six pack of Pabst.

for those east coasters, especially those living in pa, look out during xmas time for a beer called mad elf. The microbrewery only produces a certain amount of cases and kegs per year and it's a damn fine beer. Im pretty sure it's made by troeggs. It's damn near impossible to find in the stores, but i know you can find it in a lot of pubs that serve microbrew beers. If you live in or near philly you can always stop by the foodery and see if they have it. If they dont im sure one of their 80 bajillion beers they have will make you happy, gotta love mix and match six packs.
There aint a thing wrong with pabst beer either, at one point it was america's #1 beer. People shit on domestic beer all the time, i used to as well, but there's a huge difference between spending 30 bucks for a case of beer or 15 when you need to resupply. I usually just buy a 12 pack of some domestic (yuengling specifically when im back home) and a sixer of something nice. I think that MGD is a great tasting beer, ill drink dollar PBR's all night, and when im golfing miller lite is great because the extra water actually does help keep you a little bit hydrated.
However, when i really want to savor a beer and enjoy some nice flavor i can't deny that the microbrews will almost always win.
I just wish my state sold yuengling, i miss my beer.

I used to live in PA, and as a consequence I hate yuengling. Drank way too much of it when I was younger. I think it tastes like cardboard anymore.

Yup, PNM was the best dnb weekly philly had to offer. How can you beat watching world class talent in a 200 person max cap. venue and only pay 10 bucks to get in? It's too bad damian stopped doing it, a lot of people miss that night and for good reason. Id see kids i used to dance with back in 95 come out to that night and usually that was the only time id see them. By that point in time most kids i used to party with dropped out of the dance scene for various reasons, but they'd always show up to PNM because the oldskool vibes were always present. Goddamn, trip down memory lane

What, they don't do it anymore?! Last time I went was probably in late 2003. That shit was the best though. I even went to Damien's apt. one evening, as one of my friends knew him. Dude gave me a bunch of vinyl out of his (MASSIVE) collection. I think Photon played at fluid's that night.
I don't even listen to much dnb these days; mostly electro or dub/grime. But I'd love to go back to an old school fluid's type thing.

Unless he started it up again he shut it down a few years ago. Im not much into the dnb scene anymore, philly kinda killed it for me. There were too many dnb dj's all playing the same records at the same party. I remember one dj ending his set with zincs casino royale and a few djs later someone started their set with it.
I pretty much listen to house music these days, however the psytrance and goa scene is pretty strong where i live (hippieish community) and while i used to hate it's starting to grow on me. I think it was a deep fryer set that really turned me on to it.

At least you have a scene to be involved in...I don't know anyone out here that listens to electronic music; I'm pretty anti-social. It's beat though; I used to spin with a bunch of great guys and really miss having someone to play with. That's how you really step up your skills.

Yah, i ran a crew back in philly and i miss playing with them a lot. I know a bunch of people who spin down here but i really dont hang with them that much, i just now started getting inquiries about bookings and ive been in this town for three years. Earlier this year i went to a weekly and a friend introduced me to the promoter and told her i was a dj looking for a slot. The promoter looked at me and said "i need a mix tape before i can even consider you for a slot". Ive been spinning records for a long time, been involved in the dance scene before that promoter was even out of the 5th grade, and to top it off when she got on the decks she trainwrecked through an hrs worth of sub par dnb records. To top it off there were at least 4 djs in the lineup who have all heard me spin and know i have enough talent to get up on the decks and get the crowd moving. It's just laughable, ive paid my dues and quite frankly dont want to/feel the need to go through all that bullshit again. I refuse to drive two hrs, pay 10 bucks in tolls and 30 bucks in gas to spin an 8-9 pm slot for two measly drink tickets and an empty dance floor. Im more content playing small house parties and in my living room then for some pretentious promter who thinks they're the shit because they can organize a shitty weekly at a pizza joint.
That's pretty much the whole reason i left the scene, it got to be too much of an ego trip and less of, "lets set up some decks in the woods and have fun" type of vibe. Shit, i havent even bought a record since last fall lol.

Yeah, fuck playing out. It's best when it's just yourself and a few good friends at a small party. That's funny as hell that that girl was trainwreckin' though- I've found that dnb is the most forgiving music to mix... it's easy and even if you're off a little bit few people will notice.

dnb is just hip hop at twice the speed. It allows you to fuck up so much, you're right, especially if you know how to switch the lows on the records and bring in your mix on the break. Fuck, i can't even tell you how many times ive heard dnb dj's power down one deck and just slam their next record in.
It can be forgiving, but if you really want to have a smooth flow with your records it can be a bitch to get the timing down right. IMO trance and progressive is the easiest style to mix because it affords you so much time. I personally like blending a record for a minute or two before switching the tune over. Ive always been a fan of not knowing when a dj started his mix.

This is not always a cop-out tactic; sometimes this sounds great. Especially if you have the timing so one song is building into the other's drop.
You're definitely right- there is nothing easier to spin than trance, and it allows for very fine long blends. When I play electro, that's how I like to mix... for as long as possible and with subtle changes. When I play dub I do much quicker, more abrupt mixes that rely more on cues and timing than smooth, unrecognizable transitions.
