dunking crumbled cake
    #5847483 - 07/11/06 03:49 PM (17 years, 9 months ago)

Hey, I was wondering if it would be okay to dunk a crumbled cake. The jars werent wide mouth so i cant get it out in one peice. I will try to make the chunks as big as possible. I want to do this because colonization went very slow because of lack of moisture. Has anyone ever done this?

Not everyone wants to case, from what I have heard casings get contaminated a lot more than cakes, but unless this information is exagerated, I wouldn't be telling just anyone to case.

If you're sterile enough to create a fully colonized substrate (cakes, WBS, etc.) You should hopefully be sterile enough to make a casing. IMO, contamination is more prevelant in the pre-growth stage while the jars are incubating. For this guys situation, he's obviously going to have to crumble a cake - and to answer his question, No, you don't need to dunk it. What I think you should do with this crumbled cake is either fruit it in a casing all by its little self (should be a pretty small harvest, haha)

Or, you could crumble 4 more cakes and have yourself a nice hefty harvest pretty soon here. Good luck!
