I L M's 2006 NFL draft first round predictions
    #5521879 - 04/16/06 07:36 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

Here are my predictions, maybe some reasons blah blah

1. Houston- Reggie Bush, RB USC
--------is it really necessary to explain?
later picks- just about everywhere, safety is concern w/out marlon mcree, greg blue (S-Georgia) could fit

2. New Orleans- will probably trade to Tennessee
2. Tennessee- Matt Leinart, QB USC
--------McNair's aging and breaking, Young could be a good fit, but Leinart's the best on the board
later picks- WR- Maurice Stovall is big and athletic, possibly available in the third at a steal

3. New Orleans- Mario Williams, DE NC State
-------- Julius Peppers II
L8r- CB- Gerrick McPhereson, Maryland- smaller, but stunning measurables

4. New York Jets- D'Brickashaw Ferguson
-------- They want to stay with Pennington, and Ferguson is the best pass-pro in the draft, useful to keep pennington from getting rocked
Later- an RB in the second- Brian Calhoun, Wisconsin is a major threat, while Joseph Addai, LSU has good measurebles

5. Green Bay- A.J. Hawk, LB OSU
------- best player on the board, an immediate contributor possibly on a weaker D
later- Secondary & RB; Kelly Jennings-CB, Miami; Jerroius Norwood RB Miss State

6. San Fran.- Michael Huff, S/CB Texas
------- best secondary player this year, athleticism to play CB or Safety; Thorpe Award winner with great ethic
later- RB- Joseph Addai has great size, speed, and can block

7.Oakland- Vince Young, QB Texas
------- outstanding athlete, strong arm; fuck the wunderlic and 'quirky throwing style'
(vernon davis is a definite possibility here)
later- D-line is aging- Dusty Dvoracek, DT Oklahoma is a quick big man to fill for Sapp

8.Buffalo- Haloti Ngata, DT Oregon
------- though maybe not the best DT in the draft, he fills a major need for buffalo, an athletic fatty to plug the gaps a`la Pat Williams, whose absence crippled a once great D
later- O-line- Jeremy Trueblood, OT BoCo- a massive tackle

9. Detroit- Jay Cutler, QB Vandy
-------- the lions have had a shitty Q for a while and suffered severely, Cutler may be a litte overrated, but Detroit will probably really look at him
later- Secondary & O-line

10. Arizona- Vernon Davis, TE Maryland
-------- too good not to take here, could bolster an already strong pass attack
later- Quarterback- Brodie Croyle, Alabama; Omar Jacobs, Bowling Green

11. St. Louis- Brodrick Bunkley, DT FSU
-------- Best pass rusher in the draft, a major force in the backfield
later- Greatest Show on Turf has a weak secondary- Ashton Youbouty CB OSU, Pat Watkins FS FSU

12. Cleveland- Lawrence Maroney, RB Minn
------- all the tools to work with, great playmaker
later- secondary- Darnell Bing S USC, Charles Gordon CB Kansas

13.Baltimore- Gabe Watson, Michigan
-------- MASSIVE plug at 341 lbs, perfect for b-more's 3-4 set
later- LB lost some great players- AJ Nicholson FSU, Rocky McIntosh UMiami

14. Philly- Santonio Holmes, WR OSU
-------- Great playmaker with excellent speed who could start immediately and return punts
later- DT- Dusty Dvoracek Oklahoma

15. Denver- Chad Jackson WR Florida
-------- though unproven, he has excellent speed and good size, plus though productive, Rod Smith knew Moses personally
later- O line is great but aging- Kevin Boothe, G Cornell- smart & athletic, though small, perfect for the Broncos

16. Miami- Winston Justice, OT USC
-------- One of the better pass protectors in the draft, very athletic
later- Secondary

no way will vince young last til the 7th pick.. hes going to be a top 3 guy... lions will doubtly take another QB.. i highly doubt it.. Same with the Browns, no way will they draft a RB in the first round.. not with william green and lee suggs

not to be critical but it looked like u just went thru and equated the top players in the order that the teams have the picks.. i mean a lot of ur picks just dont make sense.. based on the personel the teams already have

althou i do agree with some of your picks.. watson to balt.. jackson to denver.. and maybe santionio to philly

17. Minnesota- Ernie Sims LB FSU
------- Extremely athletic and runs a sub 4.5 forty yd; weakside LB perfect for coverage
later- QB- Omar Jacobs, if they're lucky

18. Dallas- Demeco Ryans LB Alabama
------- a fierce competitor and leader; doesn't seem to get tired (25 tackle game dictates that)
later- Interior Oline- their's is aging

19. Sandy Eggo- Jimmy Williams- CB/S VaTech
------- Amazing size and athleticism, may be reaching, but the secondary needs a playmaker
later- interior o line- toniu fonoti's fatass got released, so they need a G- Charles Spencer, Pitt

20. Kansas City- D'Qwell Jackson ILB Maryland
------- projected as a 2nd rounder, but KC needs an ILB; Jackson lead the nation in tackling and has great size
later- WR- Derek Hagan ASU, Maurice Stovall Dame

21. New England- Chad Greenway- OLB Iowa
------- I think he's overrated, but with great size and (supposedly) good speed, he could fit well in a NE D that lost McGuinnest
later- Secondary- Greg Blue S UGA, Demario Minter CB UGA

22. Denver- Mathias Kiwanuka DE BoCo
------- the Cleveland Deal yielded good results in terms of run stopping, but they didn't get to the QB enough, MK will
later- Safety- Pat Watkins FSU

23. Tampa Bay- Sinorice Moss WR UMiami (will look very hard at Marcus McNeil OT Auburn)
------- no massive needs, the Bucs could use the little burner in Gruden's zany spread O; very much like present buc Joey Galloway
later- interior Oline- Max Jean Gilles will probably be out early 2nd, the bucs go with Davin Joseph G Oklahoma or Taitusi Lutui G USC
-- must also address OT & CB depth
---should look at return specialist Devin Hester UM, they've never returned a kickoff for a touchdown

24. Cincinatti- Tye Hill CB Clemson
------- Amazingly fast; though small, proved himself as a playmaker, and had great workouts
later- a little protection for Palmer's achin' knee, a right OT

25. NY Giants- Marcus McNeil OT Auburn
------- will be very lucky to pluck this nimble behemoth so late, a massive man that has sub 5.0 speed and comes in at 6'7 332
later- an RB to develop behind Tiki Barber;

26. Chicago- Leonard Pope TE UGA
------ there's nothing better for a developin QB than a big ol' tightend; Pope has amazing size (pushing 6'7) and good bulk along with being very athletic
later- a promising OT- Andrew Whitorth LSU has great size

27. Carolina- DeAngelo Williams, RB Memphis
------- an excellent play maker in the Brian Westbrook mold; stephen davis is brittle and deshaun Foster is never on the field
later- the D needs very little work, must address WR to take the load off Steve Smith- Gregg Lee WR Pitt,Skyler Green WR LSU, David Thomas TE Texas

28. Jacksonville- Marcedes Lewis TE UCLA
------- Amazing height and athleticism, rarely drops a ball
later- OT & Safety

29. NY Jets- Darnell Bing S USC
-------- somewhat a stretch, but bing has superb size, speed and athleticism, if not here he'd be an early second rounder anyway
later- Cornerback- losing Donnie Abraham's a bitch- Richard Marshall CB Fresno State- smokes the field like fine ganj

30. Nastyappolis- Thomas Howard OLB UTEP
------- a fitting RB probably won't be available, so the 6'3 231 pounder will have to do, his 4.45 speed is stunning
later- RB- Maurice Drew UCLA, Leon Washington FSU

31. Seattle- Max Jean-Gilles G UGA
------- this mountain could guarantee Alexander clean runs off the weak side
later- Secondary- Anwar Phillips CB PSU, Ko Simpson S Uof South Carolina

32. Shittsburgh- LenDale White RB USC
------- pro day really dropped him down, but he'd be a great fit with the physical power run game in Pitt
later- DE/LB Kamerion Wimbley FSU or Manny Lawson NC State

Atlanta has no first round pick so here's their first (in the second)- Ko Simpson S SoCarolina
later- S Pat Watkins FSU, CB Jason Allen Tenn

my order's completely original for the most part

i love vince young, and i'd love to see him go top three, but the high teams just don't need him
the browns need an RB suggs and green have never shown up

the lions are in desperate need of someone to play QB and Cutler will more than likely be available to them

hey brave, did you see Kiper's draft board on espn, it's pretty whacky

go to the ESPN motion section and look for the draft section, it's at the bottom

nah... i forming my own opinions.. and suggs is a great back for the browns.. green has never shown up, but suggs def has.. no way will the browns draft a RB in the first 2-3 rounds

dallas wont take a LB.. being a cowboys fan.. and knowing parcells/ jerry jones.. we will look for a SS/ FS/ CB.. someone to help in the 2ndary

i also dont think TB will go for a WR esp in the opening round.. also hard to believe that cincy would take a CB in opening round considering they have one of the best secondarys in the game..

carolina wont take a RB either.. probably the best 3 RB corps in the game.. between stephen davis, deshaun foster, and nick goings.. same deal with Pittsburgh.. dont think theyd pick a RB either

actually.. thinking about this more and more.. i dont think this has been said yet.. i wouldnt be suprised if green bay made a move to take vince young.. i know hes not really a green bay style QB.. but whether Farve returns this season or not.. they could def use a QB..

also it depends on who Tenn/ Saints take... personally id take vince young ahead of linehart.. but thats just my style of play.. id much prefer a mobile QB to a pocket passer.. esp with the O-lines of Tenn and Green Bay.. neither one is great

nah shotty, the pack took aaron rogers last year, remember

i think leinart's a bit overrated, but i know he'll be the first QB taken, that's just the way the NFL works

White is a great pick for Pitt, he's a powerback, and they don't really have a single runner

Caro's going to have to get an RB at some point, that three back system doesn't work well, davis is on his way out, foster's never healthy and goings is so-so

i've got cincy with Ty Hill b/c he's the best available secondary player available and the Bengals need secondary help as their safeties aren't very good, plus they lack a real number two opposite O'Neil

with BigD they lost Dat Nguyen, and will need an LB to fill in, granted Ryans is an OLB, he could still work; their secondary is decent w/ Henry and Newman, and they have Roy Williams holding down SS, i wouldn't be surprised to see them take a CB, but there's no safety worth that high (save for Huff who'll go top ten)

TBay is kinda up for grabs, there isn't a drastic need anywhere, but they could stand to get better just about everywhere, and improve depth

and now that i think about it, the Browns got McGuinnest, so they won't really need an immediate impact LB

if i were them i'd still take Maroney over any corner

the browns.. if i were the browns.. depending on who is avaible of course.. try and get cutler.. im unsure how high up he will go.. and then DB's... no need for them to take another first round RB

Dallas wont take a LB.. i dont think so.. im def thinking they will add depth to the secondary.. FS or a CB

Pitt.. yeah now i could see them taking LenDale White.. althou pittsburgh never really looks for overrated 1st round picks

still dont think cincy will draft into a 2ndary thats one of the best in the league.. forcing more turnovers than any other team

there's not a good enough FS for the first round for dallas to take

the dawgs got Charlie Frye last year, they won't go QB just yet
and they could definitely go the corner route, it's just maroney is mad good

white is a decent pick for Pitt b/c he could fit in their system and it's the last overall pick of the first round, which is always kind of wierd

cincy got a lot of their turnovers from two guys: deltha o'neil and Odell thurman

no no no... cincys entire secondary is full of step up guys.. their secondary is the reason i love cincy.. and because im from ohio and the browns blow..

i still want dallas to make some move to get up in the draft.. and get either young, cutler, or linehart.. i doubt it can get done.. but maybe..

yeah i think browns will make a move for a CB

you keep spelling leinart incorrectly

Cincy doesn't have a definite need at any position, there's no position that needs and immediate contributor, really, at least to my knowlege

maybe DT, but i have Hill partly because he would be one of the better players left on (my) the board

what do you think about chris perry; i love Rudi, but he better start watching his back, b/c Perry's looking damn good

i like san fran to take michael huff.. i think thats a nice bet

Buffalo.. i could see them taking the duck at DT

btw.. arizona wont take a TE, they will probably move to get eddy james some lineman to run the ball.. esp if they wanna run the strecth

i like baltimore to take gabe watson

and miami to take winston justice.. but he wont last until pick 16.. atleast i dont think so

yeah, AZ needs linemen, but Davis is such a talent and that seemed like the most likely place for him to land

i'm thinking AZ'll get a few guards with later picks, maybe jean-gilles if they're lucky, but at tenth in the second they could probably get deuce lutui or whatev his name is from USC
