How do I cook/sterilize perlite?

So basically I just got some perlite, and I've read a few times that you want to use sterilized perlite for better results, and to cook your perlite after every flush then you can reuse again.
So does anyone here know how to sterilize perlite?

Toss it on a cookie sheet with sides. Add a little water to get it moist, and bake at 450 degrees for an hour or two.
Always works great for me

Yes. That will work. But perlite right out of the bag is already sterile. Just add water. Put a little salt in the water to help ward off contams.

Heres another question I'll add to this post, although not related to the topic
I've read many different substrate preparation techniques, and they all vary in the ingredient quantities
For the half-pint jar, some say add 140ml vermiculite,40ml BRF and just "some" water to fill the jar, while other methods say use 100ml vermiculite, 60ml BRF and 45cc's of water. Can you give me what you believe is the best quantity for this?
Also, is 10cc's equal to 10ml?

Yup. It is a pretty good germ killer. There is not much that will live in it. Unless you want to grow barnacles. But we are just trying to prevent airbourne spores from growing in the perlite. I have had no problem with just plain water and H2O2 but salt has been used by some with success.

There's no reason to cook or otherwise sterilize perlite. Simply rinse well under running water, drain and use. RR

Mix h202 in your water of your terrarium. Anyways..
I HATE perlite. It is the messiest shit to work with. Do yourself a huge favor and go get some geo-lite(Aka hydroton) from a local hydroponic store, and lookup the poormans pod in the archives.

Yes, perlite is much too messy, how do they make geo-lite? where do they extract it from?

Rinse the perlite under the faucet. Drain well and place in the terrarium. Nothing else is necessary. Perlite is an inert mineral. RR
