Those are water lilys,not lotus.If you want lotus,look for Nelumbo nucifera.

nelumbo is sacred lotus and the "true" lotus.Nymphaea is a lily.They are not a lotus in anyway.The egyptians called them a lotus.But they are not.The nelumbo is the true lotus.

You made a statement about the names.In both of those links either plant you mentioned is called by either name you mentioned.
You only mentioned water lily next to the nelumbo link.Why?
In the link its called lotus allot more than it is called lily.
Either way,the nelumbo is a lotus and the Nymphaea is a lily.Having said this,both plants are said to contain the desired alkaloids.

oh yeah thats right, i was under the impression you ment nelumbo was a blue lotus, its correct what you say. but the plant commondly reffered to as blue lotus is nymphaea
, i dont think there is a blue varity of Nelumbo nucifera, i could be mistaken but i havent seen one yet

No there isnt I think they are all pink.And the smaller american version being yellow.
I was just about to post saying,I think we are discussing the matter of the Nymphaea being called a blue lotus.And the nelumbo being called a blue lotus.
We are both arguing the same point.
Either way I have some Nelumbo nucifera seeds that I cant wait to get started.I have had them a few months,I have just been waiting for the temp to rise.Im gonna grow them outside in a home made pond.And I am also gonna try and grow one or two inside in a fishtank.
Expect a large right up with pictures.

i want to grow nelumbo too but not in water. Trying to find info on growing, got any good resourse?
