Growing Oysters and other edibles

I have a 50lb (more like 42 lbs by now :P ) bag of cracked corn that I use to make spawn (it's a very fast colonizer for those who don't know), and I was wondering if I could grow oysters and other edibles on it. I dont mean make spawn, I mean fruit directly off the corn. I ask because corn is so low in nutrients, but then again, oysters are grown quite well on rolls of toilet paper. If anybody has any links about corn growing of edibles, and other interesting teks, please post the links. I am especially interested in a tut on the toilet paper growing. Thank you everyone!
peace

should be very simple.. colonize the grain in a jar and either fruit out the top or break it up and pour it into a tray... you dont need to case or anything but a light vermiculite layer on top, moistened, will help primordia formation and lessen evaporation from the substrate... goodluck and havefun!

im sure it will work there is absolutely no reason it wouldnt fruit off corn, corn i believe would be quite a much more nutritious then cardboard, paper, etc..
people commonly fruit all edible species off of rye or whatever grain they are using to make spawn, to test isolates..
please post weight just for fun

No I'm not joking, extremely expensive!! Hope this calculation will help you realize how much expensive you pay. Even if your roll wait more like 100 grms. A Toilet paper roll wait around 80 grams. You said it cost $0.25 a roll. So 1000gr./80X0.25=$3.12 for a Kilo. $3.12X20=$62.40 for 20 kilos. 20 kilos sawdust= $4.00 Do you see the difference? You're gone play a lot more often with the same money!
And more,Your rolling toilet paper contain chemicals: caustic, colors, etc. If there are chemicals in the bulk substrat, they are usualy found in the mushrooms you'll eat. Peace and have fun.

thanks for the attachment shobimono! and good points micolo. But i can't really imagine there being even relatively dangerous ammounts of chemicals in toilet paper. If there were, people would be in trouble because If i remember correctly, the anus/rectum absorb chemicals very efficiantly. Lots of people do shroom enimas, lol.
oh and I found some info on Sporeworks about growing oysters on cracked corn, and only Gold oysters fruited, and even then, not to well at all! although they did say it still colonized very fast.
thanks again everyone!

According to the research in mycoremediation, that is incorrect. Only heavy metals are absorbed into the fruit body.
Toilet paper works great for homegrowing oysters, but of course it isn't economical for a commercial grow due to the cost. It's easy and cheap to get baled paper products from recycle centers however. RR
