One of my favorite methods of asking for guidance is to pick up a book at random from my bookcase, let it fall open to a page, and read the first paragraph my eyes light on.
Often the message is dead on, and resolves the inner confusion and conflict I was experiencing. This has been true of the messages from fiction and non-fiction works alike.
Have you used this or any similar methods?

I've had very many similar instances whereby I would have a certain page that I wanted to read in a book [and rather thick books], and I'd just let it crack open and voila.. I just happened to open it at the exact page I had in mind.
A friend of mine used to walk on the beach and pick up seashells while she was contemplative of a question regarding someone or certain people in her life, and each seashell she picked up would have characteristics which would match the person she had in mind, and in fact "reveal" new insights about them that she hadn't thought of before.
During my childhood years, I would similarly delve in various semi-superstitious methods of answering the big Q's at that time, which is something as I learned later in life to be a type of psychic-ventriliquism. A way of symbolically communicating with our subconsciousness-intelligence.

Tried that, and it works... but then again, I don't really ever know what to ask. I mean, I could just ask myself, and then sit down with the question, and voil?, my inner book tells me In a way, the book is just another part of yourself. You might open the same pages within you, without seeking the answer from 'outside'... it is all in you

I like that....but is it really symbolic?
It's really cool to think that part of us might actually know which book to pick, and exactly how to drop it so that it turns to the right paragraph we need to read.

On an energetic level, I am not separate from the book, so I suppose I am indeed looking up the answers within myself.

speaking of books...
a few days ago, I said if something (which I won't say what) does happen in the future it will be a miracle, a true miracle, and I am scpetical about miracles as any man would be.
Then yesterday, a book came in a mail, I didn't order it and I didn't know it was comming. The book was "discovering the wonders of our world", but since it was a Croatian translation, the title was translated as "all the Miracles of the world"

Maybe it's like horoscopes...you could apply the message to any situation you have in question. Like selective interpreting or something.
On a sort of similar page, when I play cards, sometimes I'll take the deck and drop it on the table and whichever card falls out of place(almost always one card becomes the outcast) I peak at and consider it the lucky(game winning) card. Usually is.

I do it sometimes, it's basically something occuring inside your mind that you read through the lines of the book.
It's a symbolic way to initiate dialogue with the personal unconsicous. It's very Jungnian in a way
for the one who said the thing ''why then would we pick the EXACT book at the EXACT page''. Well, there is no such thing as the exact book , in fact , any book at any page will do.
