I say NO.
You want to shake your WBS jars after PC'ing to redistribute the moisture. Once you do the protective layer will mix with the WBS and disappear.

i find polyfill to be unneccesary, i just use two layers of tyvek. hadn't had a contam yet out of at least 20 jars of wbs.
however you can't use verm because like hippiechick says, ya gotta be able to shake it, and even if you leave room to shake, once shaken the verm is no longer at the top being protective (duh). just go find some of those freebie usps or fedex envelopes.

It's the air exchange that is the problem. It is a must, and you don't want to leave just an open hole in the lid. You're just inviting problems.

I use the hole stuffed with polyfill method. I just had 9 jars 100% colonized in about 16 days. Worked well for me and its very simple.
