I don't think it has become an imflammatory word. Conservatives use "liberal" as an insult, just as liberals use "neocon" as an insult.
I'm a quasi-liberal, and I don't feel insulted when someone labels me a liberal. If you believe what you stated about liberals, then feel proud when someone labels you one.

By making it associate with the people that think Michael Jackson is Innocent etc. By using the term to describe people that even most actual liberals disagree with.
At least in my experience.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------- Anisotropic said:Killing people = wrong. Helping people/putting the needs of other above you're self = correct ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Looner2 said:Gosh, If my point could be made any clearer, but this is IT. The epitome of liberal thought.
that piss me off, so from what he is saying then because i believe it is wrong to kill innocent people even if it means letting the bad guy go that im a mamby pamby liberal??

Lets face it, Italians don't give a fuck if the barter they made for a couple of their own ends in a few more American deaths, I can't blame them. Why should they pass up an opportunity like that to help out the US in its military adventurism?
The 3000 Italian troops are leaving in September anyhow, not much to worry about.

Europe doesn't have any of its heart in this war anyway.
You could say even the US doesn't really have it for Iraq either.
Evidently Italy doesn't see this war as significant, and would rather save their own kind. Seeing as Italy isn't that involved, I don't really blame them; they don't believe in it, so in their eyes they're just saving innocent Italian hostages. If those were high-ranking Nazi officials (assuming an alternate reality where Italy wasn't allies with the Nazis ) then I seriously doubt they would've struck a bargain, since they'd be completely devoted to conquering the enemy. But in Iraq, what is the enemy? The enemy hasn't attacked Italy, so they ask themselves why they should let innocent Italians die.
Though I believe if the Italians don't believe in this war as this article seems to show, they shouldn't be involved in it.

The italian people don't believe in it, but Berlusconi does.
