How do you know a Liquid Culture is contaminated
    #4576132 - 08/24/05 06:54 PM (18 years, 7 months ago)

Cakes and Jars are easy for the most part to tell if you have a contam.

What about Liquid Cultures??

I have a baby bottle with plenty of wispy white threads in it.

Is it for certain mycelium??

How can you tell if it was say cobweb?? or Tric??

unless the LC has dis-color or something obvious...

the best way to test a LC is to try it on 1 jar.

after you see 1 jar take off with mycelium growth...

you know your good to go!~

You can usually see growth from a LC in 2 to 3 days...

its time worth waiting...rather than having a shit load of contam jars if your not sure the LC isn't any good.

LC is the most difficult to spot contams although sometimes contams are easily spotted. White strandy threads, cloudy masses of whitish myc are good indicators of healthy mycelium, spots of any other color of course means the LC is trash. As Road said it's worth the wait if in doubt, well worth it!!! GL

I always test a LC on a 1/2 pint jar. Only takes a couple days and like Road said, better off losing a 1/2 pint then 30 quarts.
