SHROOMS IN KANSAS
    #4130125 - 05/03/05 11:52 PM (9 years, 5 months ago)

Ok, so I was looking in the finding mushroom FAQ section of the Shroomery, and it has no potential mushrooms listed for Kansas. Does anyone know of any mushrooms that grow in Kansas that are edible and make you trip etc. If someone who has knowledge of where mushrooms grow or who knows a source that could show me a more wide variety of places, I would appreciate it. I find it very hard to believe that NO EDIBLE SHROOMS grow in Kansas. I'm a noob and I would greatly appreciate any attempts at help. Thanks.

Sure there's edibles in Kansas. Not many ACTIVES though.

Panaeolus subbalteatus does grow in Kansas, and it is active. But that's all I'm going to tell you about it. Google it for more info.

As far as finding edibles goes, there's too much information to summarize here. I reccomend buying a good mushroom ID book if you're serious about hunting mushrooms (not just another dude looking for an easy, cheap high).

Mushrooms Demystified is a GREAT field guide. Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Mushrooms is another good book.

www.mushroomexpert.com has a lot of info about all mushrooms. Edible, poisonous, and everything inbetween (except actives, thats what we're here for.)

Much thanks Gumby. Your advice shall be used wisely. I intend on purchasing Mushrooms Demystified and trying to find some Panaeolus Subbalteatus around here. Although I googled it and found out that they thrive in the Spring and the Fall... does this mean that they will be obselete in the early or middle Summer?

member "Peaceful Nomad" lives in Kansas,
and he visits a horse manure pile
and has found incredible amounts of Cubensis growing from it.

i dont think he has found any subbalteatus yet,
but tons of Cubes

do a search to find his pictures and posts about the cubes he finds.
