mycelium is growing through casing
    #407153 - 09/28/01 01:08 AM (22 years, 6 months ago)

I cased my cakes recently, and after a few days, it seems the mycelium is growing up through the casing, and not fruiting, as I would hope at this point in the growing process.

What does this indicate is going wrong? Do I need to wait longer before casing? My jars seemed quite overrun with mycelium when I cased them (very white and stringy all over) . Too wet? Too dry?

TIA for any feedback.

I am using Sporechicks tek (crumbled cakes in aluminum pan) with PC Ecuador, cake = verm+brownRiceFlour, casing = verm + jiffyMix.

how much of the casing layer has been colonized (percentage)??? once the casing layer has been colonized about 40-60 percent then you need to give it light and humidity. light and humidity are two main things that get youre mycelium to pin!!

it begins with an "m" and ends with an "ushroom"

get youre equipment from here!!!

Casings take about two weeks from start to finish. Hang in there.

It's light and the right temperature that promote pinning. Keep the humidity high until you have a really good pin set.
