San Pedro Cactus Storage
    #4037094 - 04/10/05 02:31 PM (9 years, 4 months ago)

What would be the best method way to store the whole cactus? And for how long would it last? I would assume the freezer.

Thanks!!!

Is there any reason why you can't grow it out? That's the best way for long term storage...

Its more a long term investment, if you have some patience.

It can be an long term investment, but it can also be a medium-term deposit with nice interest

If you don't want to eat it now root it and plant it. Whenever you want to eat it it will probably be bigger and will leave you a root system that will put out new cacti.

EDIT: Other than that you can always cut it in slices and dry in the oven (at less than 100?C). Dried or freezed will last for many years.

Planted will last forever, always giving you more and more mesc  Mine has 4 branches and last summer it grew roughly 12-14 inches per branch (~4 doses). It's definitely something worth planting.

Thanks for the info. I live in the Northeast I don't think that it can survive temp below 25 degrees F. Unless I put them in pots and bring them in for the Winter.

Just put them in pots, at least you have outdoors. I have a indoor apartment for growing cacti... lol.
