I've grown them in pots in the garden before, about 8" across by 10" deep I guess, they've never done quite as well as ones planted out but ok as long as you only have 2-3 in each pot. Not sure with the lighting though, I've heard they may not germinate if not in direct sunlight?
I've just finished my first batch of tea of the year about 30 mins ago. Just did a mellow brew to start with as I've been off it for about 5 months now, good job too. I'm sat at my desk trying to work and keep catching myself just staring into space.
I'll have to remember to get some pics uploaded of this years crop.

This may be a dumb question, but I dont know the answer. Do all species of Papaver yield something? I am assuming they do since its the same family but I'm not very educated on plants, and am not 100% sure.

Wait a sec... I have peaonies in my yard right now.
What kind of peaony varieties? Do you have links?

Wow, sounds like you can really sew papavers close together.

Really? They should germinate with fluorescent light and some heat, no?

lancing pods does not get all the opium out so the pods should still be useful for making tea, so far as i know anyway.

Fuck, mites wiped out all but 2 of my plants this season.
Two! Gah!
I didn't see the webs until it was too late, but I did spray the remaining ones, and they don't seem to be worsening.
I hate growing poppies in this location. It's difficult as hell.

Are the poppies out and flowering yet?
I've seen lots of the red poppies which do not produce opium but havn't seen any opium producers about yet.
