Some interesting views to say the least...

 Good resource for learning about religious vs. scientific ideas, proofs, and ways of thought.

Phew, what a lot of reading!

I think the continum illustrates the problem perfectly. It starts with forms of belief that use the Bible as the sole evidence for their theory, and these beliefs seem completely irrational and baseless. From there, I see each belief taking into account more and more of what science has found to be true, and less of what the Bible says (they allow for more interpretation of the Bible and do not blindy believe it).

I mean, first you have the belief that the Earth is flat, which completley contradicts tons of observable evidence that it is not, to the belief that the Earth is only 6,000 years old, despite tons of evidence that it is not. Of course, some are at least not so blind as to deny this evidence, but only make up a magical belief that the Earth was simply created to appear older than it actually is (a completely useless belief, of course).

Eventually you get to the point where people are basing their beliefs more in reality than on a book that provides no evidence (only the demand that you accept said book as evidence! :nonono:). The idea that God is behind all natural processes, and creates through evolution, etc., seem more reflective of reality than the fact that he created us a few years ago, but just gave the Earth the appearance and history of being formed much earlier.  :smirk:

Of course, the end of the spectrum is philosophical materalistic evolution, which does not include a belief in God at all. What is interesting in this belief is that it only uses methods that observe reality, instead of imposing onto reality beliefs about reality. It makes no sense to include a belief that has no actual basis in what we can know about reality when it is not required for us to know and understand reality. Such a belief merely clouds our perceptions of what reality is, and this continum demonstrates this.

Of course, almost everyone here already knows all of this and understands this, and that rules. We humans have really come a long way in being able to think, understand, and observe instead of exhibiting poor thinking and reasoning abilities, a state of not knowing, and proclaiming what reality is with no basis for that claim.

I'm referring to the confused ex-member of KoRn... I just read about him sending letters to 50 Cent about how God wants him to become one of his soldiers.... :smirk:

At least we all agree that the earth does exist...

Unless someone cares to suggest otherwise, in which case I'm all ears.
