The 49th day theory
    #3709074 - 01/31/05 07:57 PM (9 years, 2 months ago)

I have come up with this theory on my own, but upon further research, a few other people have also. I put this out here for fun, because to me it is mind exercise/ detective work. I half believe it, and half laugh at my outlandish theories, but nonetheless are great topics to discuss:

THE 49TH DAY THEORY:

in essence, i will attempt to show a correlation between physical facts and studies, to prove that a soul enters the body on the 49th day after conception....(please take a moment to smoke a joint or bowl)

Lets begin with the pinneal gland. A gland that sits in the perfect center of your head, and being the only organ in the brain with no mirror organ. In species other than humans, like birds, it actually has a lens. Some religions and people refer to this as the "third eye". Descartes once published that he felt that the pinneal gland was the seat of the soul. These facts led me to read "DMT: the spirit molecule" by dr. rick strassman. He wrote this book based on findings from one of the only DMt experiments, which he performed.

Some facts on the Pinneal Gland:
1) it secretes DMT and melatonin, and also deals with regulation of melatonin.
2) it is formed from cells in the mouth and migrates to its position in the middle of the brain.
3) on the 49th day after conception the pinneal gland is fully formed, and releases some amount of DMT.
4) there are 2 distinct times when the pinneal gland releases DMT in large amounts: once at birth, and once at death.
5) to this day very little research has been done on the pinneal gland, and until a few years ago, was thought to be equivalent to the appendix, having no serious needed function.

now further....

Buddhism doctrine states that 49 days after death, a soul is reincarnated. On the 49th day after conception is the first time the sex can be determined of a fetus, and it is also the day the cremaster muscle becomes present, which is the muscle that raises and lowers the testicles. Some may be familiar with a group of movies and published art works, called "The cremaster cycle" by matthew barney. These 5 movies, consisting of something like 8-10 hours, all are focused on the 49th day, or when a fetus becomes male or female. (that was just added bonus, a really cool art series, i would consider checking it out)

Also, for those of you who dont know yet, DMT is dimethyl Tryptamine, which is an endogenous hallucenogen, which is very powerful and has/is used by many religious groups around the world. in great amounts it is pretty much insant ego loss, peaking anywhere from 15 seconds to a minute after intake.

it goes a little deeper, but gets a little more wild. Have fun with it!

i think a bunch of those thing aren't facts, numbers three and four to be precise, but things strassman suggested were possible (i no longer have his book, but when i read it i noticed he didn't state that those were facts). also as far as i know even if he did do research into it, i don't think his research has been replicated. i could be completely wrong here.

I am pretty sure I read that somewhere in his book. ill look for it.

his research has yet to be replicated, in any way. Later on in the book he talks about the entire process it took to get a grant and ability to do this study. It is a shedule 1 i think now.

That's a pretty neat theory. If the facts you laid out are indeed correct, the whole thing lays out pretty nicely. Very neat indeed.

The pineal gland (epiphysis cerebri) is a small (100-150mg in humans), unpaired central structure, essentially an appendage of the brain. The mammalian pineal is a secretory organ, whereas in fish and amphibians it is directly photoreceptive (the 'third eye')and in reptiles and birds it has a mixed photoreceptor and secretory function. Pinealocytes retain elements of their photoreceptive evolutionary history in both structure and function
http://www.endotext.org/neuroendo/neuroendo15/neuroendo15.htm

>Lets begin with the pinneal gland. A gland that sits in the perfect center of your head, and being the only organ in the brain with no mirror organ.
-The corpus callosum is the bridgeway between the two halves in the brain. There is no mirror organ for it (unless conjoint twins count as one person)
And it's a little difficult to find out the exact center of such an odd shape as a skull... but it would appear that the thalamus is actually the exact center of the brain.

>Some religions and people refer to this as the "third eye".
-Obviously somebody had said it before you (see cite) but I'm wondering what kind of religion performs brain autopsies.
"The pineal gland, sometimes called a 'third eye' because of a role in lower vertebrates in sensing light and dark cycles" http://k-2.stanford.edu/InfoFrames/EndoSys.2.0.html
It seems this biology term wound up being used with it's spirituality definition.

I do not write this because I disagree that a human soul, indeed a fully developed reincarnated being, enters the the fetus on day 49, or anyday, although I am pro-choice.

I write this because the thesis "a soul enters the body on the 49th day after conception" is not supported by any "physical facts and studies" There will always be people who hear something and repeat it without even considering it, nevermind go searching for facts and studies.

I can't remember where I read this, but apparently the pineal gland is actually constructed like a little eyeball in some way. can't remember specifically, but upon dissection it bears striking similarities to the other two eyeballs we have in our heads. anyone else hear about that?

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
(Redirected from Third eye)
The mind's eye (or third eye) is a phrase used to refer to one's ability to "see" things (such as visions) with the mind. This is, essentially, a reference to imagination and memory, although it can have religious or occult connotations. The concept is not supported by science.

The term "third eye" is not used for visualization and memory, only for visions. People with well-developed third eyes are sometimes known as "seers". This concept is often associated with clairvoyance, precognition, and out-of-body experiences.

In Hinduism and Buddhism, the third eye is a symbol of enlightenment (see moksha and nirvana). This is commonly denoted in Indian and East Asian iconography with a dot, eye or mark on the forehead of enlightened beings, such as the Shiva or the Buddha, or any number of yogis, sages and bodhisattvas.

Some claim that the chakras can be opened via chakra gemstones. They claim to open the third eye it takes an amethyst that has been cleaned under flowing water before use.

Retrieved from "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mind%27s_eye"

but no, i guess no religions refer to it as that....

i also said that the pinneal gland sits in the middle of the head.... i did say in the listing that it sat in the middle of thebrain later, but that was a mistake.

The corpus callosum isnt mirrored by another organ, but it is perfectly symmetrical to itself, while the pineal gland isnt. It is mis-shapen somewhat, while the corpus callosum when bisected can mirror itself if the brain were bissected perfectly. So, I was mistaken that it is the only non-mirrored brain organ, maybe what I should have said is that it isnt in line with most of the symmetries or characteristics of other brain organs.

plus the corpus callosum is the linkage between two mirrored parts of the brain (correct me if wrong), whereas the pineal gland doesn't seem to be linking anything(s) together (correct if wrong)

No it isnt really linking anything, not that I know of. there are some ideas and theories that have been put forth that claims schitzophrenia could be caused by the lack of anti-DMT (if you will) chemicals, which pretty much says that they are getting a constant stream of DMT and just constantly tripping. It also goes on to hypothesize about near-death exeriences and Alien abductions.

ever get the feeling that the 'flavour' of our everyday experiences is due to the fact that we are constantly 'tripping' on seratonin??

well I find it telling that DMT (and LSD and psilocybin), molecularly speaking, seem to be minor variations on the seratonin molecule, and bind to the same sites. so when there's no DMT or LSD or whathaveyou in our brains, what's there to act as neurotransmittor? you got it, seratonin.

>On the 49th day after conception is the first time the sex can be determined of a fetus

Where do you have this from?

I found those data:

"Fetal sex determination is usually done with ultrasound at 16 weeks or later.
If you choose to undergo procedures such as CVS (chorionic villi sampling) or
amniocentesis, you can get your baby's sex determined as well.

See, e.g., http://www.libertywomenshealth.com/10.html:
"Sex determination of the fetus can be done accurately by 16-18 weeks by expert
ultrasound at our office in most cases, and as early as 14 weeks in some cases.
This can sometimes be helpful in ruling in or out some diseases that are sex-
linked. The sex of the fetus is also accurately determined if a patient
undergoes a CVS (chorionic villi sampling) at 10-11 weeks or an amniocentesis
at 15-16 weeks."

According to some studies, it may be too early to try to determine your baby's
sex even at 16 months. A lot depends on the technician's skill and the position
your baby is in at the moment.

From
http://www.parentsplace.com/expert/midwife/qas/0,10338,239702_115332,00.html:
"Even though studies are now reporting 100 percent accuracy in determining
fetal gender between 11 to 16 weeks of gestation, in the average clinic
situation, fetal gender identification is often not undertaken until at least
16 weeks, and is often not reliable until 20 to 24 weeks -- and this is when
the baby cooperates fully!

In a study by Whitlow, published in Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology, a
sample of 524 women underwent a detailed assessment of fetal anatomy at 11 to
14 weeks of gestation by means of transabdominal sonography and transvaginal
sonography (26 percent). Fetal gender was identified and was confirmed at
birth. The overall success of correctly assigning fetal gender increased with
gestational age. At 11 weeks predictions were correct 46 percent of the time,
at 12 weeks 75 percent, at 13 weeks 79 percent and at 14 weeks a 90 percent
success rate was reached."

Koala Labs claim to determine fetal sex reliably as early as the tenth week of
gestation.

From http://members.aol.com/jdskoala/frame_frame.htm:
"Koala Labs uses a patented FASA scan technology that is accurate and reliable
as early as the tenth week of fetal development. Sonogram results are available
immediately. According to an article in the New England Journal of Medicine
(October 20, 1983), the technique of using sonogram images to determine whether
a unborn baby is a boy or a girl was originally developed in conjunction with
genetic amniocentesis. Using ultrasound scanning to observe the sex/gender of
an unborn baby, however, is completely accurate as a stand-alone technique."

There's also a brand new procedure that involves measuring a certain hormone in
your blood or urine.

From
http://www.clickondetroit.com/det/health/lilasgoodhealth/stories/lilasgoodhealth
-121819620020201-210225.html:

"Ultrasounds are often performed during the second trimester of pregnancy, but
scientists hope that in the future a blood or urine test may give parents an
indication of whether they will have a boy or a girl.

Genetic researchers at the Tel Aviv Medical Center found that a hormone called
MSHCG triggers a positive pregnancy test. That hormone is much higher if a
woman is carrying a girl than if she's having a boy, researchers said. And that
difference can be detected 16 days after conception."

There are some other methods that were commonly used before ultrasound was
developed, but they don't seem to be accurate.

From http://www.cma.ca/cmaj/vol-161/issue-12/1525.htm:
"Many family physicians have been asked time and time again about the accuracy
of certain "old wive's tales" for predicting the sex of the fetus. Among the
more popular "tales" inquired about are the fetal heart rate test, the Chinese
calendar test and the Draino test." [This goes on to show why those tests are
unreliable.]

Also, you can try a Google search for "fetus OR fetal sex OR gender determine
OR determination OR identification", and specific searches for "ultrasound
fetal sex", "MSHCG fetal sex", and "early pregnancy fetal sex determination",
to find more answers."

In "Dmt - The Spirit Molecule" the author clearly states that there is not enough scientific data concerning this, but, anyhow Id like to lead this discussion trough the concerns whether it is real or not, because even if it was not, it is highly interesting.

So, what if it is
Pineal Gland IS interesting, infact I find it the most interesting body part of them all, because its ticking in my head all the time sending electricity trough my neural pathways.

well, here is what I have foudn on the subject....

The cheeks are visible on about the 47th day, when the knees are also developing. The vagina forms during the 36th to the 49th days, while the wrist is developing on about day 48. During the 49th to 51st days after conception, the arms are longer and bent at the elbows.

From this same page though, it says this about the formation of the penis...

The penis begins to develop on about the 42nd day after conception, the same day that the beginnings of the toes are evident.

here is the link.... http://www.sfuhl.org/b_unborn_child_develops.htm make your own theories about how this proves or disproves my theory..... just giving some found facts...

And I also found this interesting tidbit about the activation of the Pineal gland....

These chemicals (DMT Pinoline, and melatonin) are secreted by the pineal gland, also known as the ?seat of the soul? or ?the third eye?. This pineal gland becomes active 49 days after conception..

When this chemical reaction happens, the brain is literally being awakened as one begins the human experience?this happens on the 49th day after conception. This is the spirit descending down onto man, this is Gautama becoming Buddha, this is the day that the dead reincarnate.

The chemicals secreted by the Pineal gland on this 49th day are very interesting. Pinoline and DMT. DMT (N,N-dimethyltryptamine - C12H16N2) can be found in nature as well as in the human brain. It can be found in some plants, some species of toads, and in Psilocybe mushrooms (Manna) as well. DMT is an extremely powerful hallucinogenic, the prototype of its class and it?s referred to as the holy grail of psychedelic substances?nothing is said to be more intense of an experience than one induced by DMT. The Pinoline works as an MAOI* - blocking chemicals that would break down the DMT, making the experience longer and more intense.
Part of the intensity that comes from smoked DMT stems from the fact that the onset is virtually instantaneous; one is taken from feeling completely normal, to the peak of the most intense trip available in the space of only a second or two, and this can be totally disorienting and frightening to many.

As we are born, our brains are saturated with the most psychedelic substance known to man.
The same chemicals are secreted by the Pineal gland during the natural death experience.

Make no mistake about it, we are born and we die in the psychedelic state of consciousness. We can also reproduce this experience during Life...being born again would be a good way to describe the experience.
The embryo, on the 49th day after conception, technically becomes a fetus. Fingers and toes begin to develop; we sexually diversify at 49 days; the eyelids form and begin to close; the Pineal gland becomes active and the brain is being saturated with melatonin, pinoline, and 5-meo-DMT.

and here is the link to that.... http://www.christianmyth.com/Reincarnation04.htm

Also, the middle passage is an exerpt i think from DMT: the spirit molecule.
