Florida Fly Agaric (Amanita Muscaria) Questions
    #3558115 - 12/29/04 06:39 PM (9 years, 9 months ago)

The Audubon says FL has a fly agaric hunting season from Nov-Feb.
I can't find any. Any tips besides pine trees?

I tend to find them in areas with more of a red clay soil and of course pine trees seem to be necesary. I frequently find them on roadsides with dense pines and high grass(like ditch grass) and on the fringes of places that dig up the red clay for other uses(construction), but always a pine tree is never more than 5 feet away. I too am from the Southeast.

Two questions for you...1. Have you ever seen fly agarics while driving in the city? 2. How many have you found within the 3month season that they appear in?

I don't live in your region but I have seen about 5 patches of red agarics this season. They are always growing at the base of a tree and often in very dense soil (not mulch or manmade planters).

1. Yes, again as long as pine, spruce etc is present.

2. Possibly hundreds.

in the deep south parts of florida.

"Amanita muscaria is my favorite mushroom"

Tell me anything you can about this. I've never experienced them at all.

it's not a "trip" as in a psilocybe trip.. it's more along the lines of delerium, so i've heard. i'm sure i'd enjoy it, but i've never seen Muscaria shrooms in my area(gainesville) but I admit to not looking for them.

i'd eat muscaria given the chance.

Let me know if you find any and the conditions of the area where you found them. I always keep my eye out and still haven't found 'em. I need some inspiration from other sunshine state folks.

Tyler, I'm still learning about this myself. I'm really not positive on where to find them. I have never found one to date.

The audubon says to look near pine trees. Look for pine trees and scan the ground thoroughly. Bring a digicam too and let us know what is found.

You may find them on a golf course, perhaps in an undeveloped lot of land, perhaps in a woodsy area, perhaps right on your front lawn or on a neighbors lawn.

I'm the one who needs more info on this.  :sun:

I don't live anywhere near you guys (UK) but I've picked over 30oz dried this season.

Do you get many birch there? I always find them in huge numbers under silver birch.
