Neither is true.
Porn was always popular, now it's just more accesible because of the internet.
The internet didn't need porn to be huge, but that probably pushed it along in some ways.

the internet was popular enough before filesharing/porn sites were even that huge. i think for almost all internet users, porn was just an added bonus.

I heard figures (that I can't cite the source of) that said that about 70% of all websites are porn sites. Even if that's not true, I'd bet good money on 50%!
