With our auto-thumbnail script, there was no way to add an image hosted on our server directly into a post. It would automatically be replaced with a thumbnail link, no matter what. This is a great way to save bandwidth for us and our users, but it doesn't make much sense if the image you're posting is already pretty small.
Now when you add an image to your post, its dimensions will be checked. The maximum size for a thumbnail is 180 x 180, or 32,400 pixels. If your image has fewer pixels than that (in any ratio), it will not be thumbnailed.
Hopefully this will make the auto-thumbnail feature a little less obtrusive.
