I know I've been making a case for cakes recently(no pun intended), and here's the reason why. I know you can grow more shrooms by far using casing. Cakes do take up a lot of space in the terrarium, especially when they grow well.

Just want to give an incentive for newbies to try PF tek.

You gotta really love the visual effect of cakes. Second flush, 2nd cake harvested out of 10 GT cakes.

Different angle


Harvested at 126g wet from cake #2. First flush was even 130, so about same so far. There is a noticeably larger amount of bruising at harvest than first flush.

I know, I know... if you want a lot of shrooms, you need to case.

Also, keep in mind that my cakes are from 270ml jars not 1/2 pint. about 40ml difference between the two.

Anyways... I posted my pics, so I want some feedbacks. It seems every time I post something, no one pays any attention. If I don't get some feedbacks, I'll just keep to myself from now on. (good way to shut me up, huh?)

yeah man, that looks great. I've got some jars innoculating right now...I am probably going to have to just grow cakes with a few of em and try it out. Those are just pretty.

very nice my freind and thanks for all the help with my terrarium i hope mine turn out half as good as that im pissed though the 2 Gt jars i had going are both contamned guess i didnt sterilize well enough well try better next time. anyway did you dunk? and how does your jar compare to 1 Pint jar?

My jars are barely bigger than 1/2 pint jars.  The difference is almost neglegible.  Just think of them like 1/2pint jars.

And yeah.  I dunked/coldshock for 20 hours at slightly above freezing.  My fridge is fair cold.

I only double ended case.  I didn't roll.  But I did sit them on top of about 1/2" thick layer of Wet(really really wet) vermiculite.  And I made sure that verm layer on top was moist and bottom completely drenched after pinning.  They soak up a lot of water.

But I do advise against wet verm on the bottom...  I've had no contamination, and with clean freak wife, I haven't seen mold for over 6 month in the house.  Food left in pots rust the pots before anything grows in the house...

Anyways, I'm sure everyone can duplicate nice cakes.  Just matter of listening to advices and conforming to ideals. :wink:

One more thing...  these cakes are yielding about same as my casing.  That is cake for cake.  3 cake casing made some nice sized ones, though.  But still about the same cake for cake.

I can't even believe that many shrooms are growing off single cakes. Amazing! Do you wait to birth until you see pins in the jars, or do you take them out as soon as they are done colonizing?

Cakes were colonized in 8 days, dunked on 10th day from inoculation.  And in the PMP on 11th.  No invitro.  Just straight up what Hyphae, Magash, Scatmanrav and I advise everyone to do. :wink:

very nice. wish i had your yields. haha im moving to casings next once my cakes are kicked. here's the best i got out of one cake at a time.

I just cased 2 qt rye jars. :smile:  Takes up a lot less space, but cakes seem more enjoyable to me.  I have way more than enough shrooms than I know what to do with already.

A shroomer here in Holland I have contact with says that GT comes from Psilocybe Fanaticus and that now a lot of different species / strains are called GT.

So what U r saying is a kind of confirmation.

:thumbup: Wow those are some excellent cakes man. How did you innoculte them, spores in syringes, shroom, what? My first cakes are taking over 30 days to colonize and if yours took 10, i would definitely like to try your method. Oh yeah if your willing to part with a print or syringe, i'd love one, it's been so hard for me to acquire the two strains i have.  :bananamusic: -this is a weird gremlin but i like it for some reason...
