when I did my double tub I had sooo much heat coming off substrate when I opened it up....thats what convinced me that it is indeed true that bulk generates its own heat...it also colonized within around 5 days at 75-80...actually a buddy of mine who is known for his growing on here as well(starter) actually put a therm inside his bulk and noticed that its much hotter then the temp outside of it as well...he mentioned you wouldn't want to go too high cause you could fry it

Hmz likely to be true. Since compost can get at pasteurizing temperatures on its own. In (wet) haystacks sometimes fire can start due to what we call "breeding" here. I think I will incubate at roomtemps then. But these are between 68 and 74. Might be a tickle to low?

I'd say thats fine
also like to mention I got the dry weight on the fluke burma
99.8gs dry
I also dunked it and patched it up with verm(it only had verm for the first flush) so should get some more nice flushes from it

What surface did you have walrus?
Thanks for the answer.
The strawtub I thought I had heated too much IS showing some growth. But seems like some parts of the spawn did not survive it. Ill just wait and see.
Should I put the lid on? I have that plastic on the straw punctured with holes. Looks very wet in there though...

I use tinfoil with poked holes just set on top of the substrate and put the lid on...with the double tub I didn't have an extra lid since I had cut them for sealing it so I used a garbage bag
heres my double tub during incubation:

maybe I use a dark garbage bag too. Also keeping it nice and dark in there. Since the tub is transparant.
Thanks....

if you have a lid for the bin thats all you need dude...that and the tinfoil with holes sittin on the substrate
EDIT: you should also tape finfoil around the bottom and sides of the bin...otherwise you can get shrooms growing on the bottom and sides which is nothing but a hassle and can actually ruin a casing if they start to rot....even with solid bins you should use tinfoil cause solid bins are NOT light proof...an aggressive strain like burma can and will pin on the sides without it...this is not just theory I've had this happen to me

Yeah when I take it to the light I will cover the substrate/casing so that it wont fruit inside. But since its a transparant tub I take it in a dark garbage bag to incubate. I have no closet in this room. Now its in the bedroom in the closet but there its like 65F. On a electric blanket though but I want it here.

you realize that garbage bags are not light proof either...the only thing I can think of to use that truely blocks light is tinfoil...I wanna look for a possible paint

Yes,garbage bags arent light proof,......UNLESS you layer them, over top of each other.
I did that to block light from getting in the side of a aquarium.

lotta tape tho...theres gotta be some type of paint product...I could be completely wrong but I just feel like that product has to exist...I'm gonna do some searchin
EDIT: since I got upload space back heres a couple pics of my dried burmas
and the weight was 99.8gs dry if I remember correctly...not bad for a casing that was too wet not fully colonized and only had verm on top ...not to mention was barely fanned

yeah but it is also still in the blanket, and hey we have very high quality garbage bags here..
btw I tested something yesterday I had some GT growing in Liquid Malt/dextrose, I sucked into syringe and squirted a few CC in a half pint with horsepoo and straw.

Hey nice pics walrus, what was the fruiting surface?
Black duct tape should work sticks permanent doesnt it? There must be black paint sticking to plastic im sure. I tried the foil but it sucks since it rips apart so easy.
You could also glue some layers of those lowkey garbage bags!

that was from that fluke burma...there was nothing but verm on top lol...I'm tellin ya burma is the super cubensis...I have some jars now fighting and beating contams(which I've seen before)...no strain touches it for pinsets or total weight
also about the single tub...I don't know why your so excited dude...sure it will work...but a double tub lets you use a HUGE substrate layer and still have plenty of room so the shrooms don't bump their heads...the burma I"m doing now is gonna be around 8"'s of substrate 3" straw 3" verm and 2 " poo...basically done the same as the eq I did just double tub style...double tubs also allow for stacking since you don't have to worry about having a plastic top for ligth and to see whats going on inside
but that said I WILL do one
