I would dislike to add to tecknojunkie's suggestion that it might be the nitrogen in the coffee. Lately I have been looking for a replacement for vermiculite for my casing for both PF cakes and normal casing. I have been experimenting with peat based potting compost which I believe has nutrients added. Consistently the peat seemed to pin at least a week earlier than straight Verm, my peat topped Pf cakes have been amazing in terms of yield.

Wow... Coffee is my god... Had a decent sized grow going, and had had a really shitty first flush... Stumbled upon this post as my second flush was starting (also semi-disappointing), and having not much to lose soaked my casing in the coffee solution listed in this thread. The biggest shroom at that time was roughly 4 inches long, and the rest were pretty measily... I come back 8 hours after spraying the coffee on, and there's a 13, a 12 and a 9 inch shroom takin up nearly the entire growin space. So I pick them as their veils had ripped a while ago, and left it to go to sleep. 10 hours later I check on the kit, and now there's FOUR more foot-long shroomz takin' up almost the whole casing area... These shrooms had only been 2-3 inches when I'd picked the first group of shrooms last night... Conclusion: coffee fuckin rox.

I'll be testing this out on my next project. I'll be using rye berries to innoc, so I think that I might take a coffee filter and fill it with coffee (I'll try 1 spent and 1 fresh). I'll tie it at the top and place it in the pot while I simmer and soak the berries. I hope to see such great results as I see you guys are having, and I'll keep ya posted!

So here is my question. It is to Roger and Hippie. I read 17 pages of this stuff to make sure it wasn't covered. I could have written War and Peace. My favorite post so far was Hip playing Dr. Suess, but I digress...

Lets say a theoretical outdoor patch exists in it's infancy from a first time grower. Would he dump some diluted coffee on it? That is kind of what I am getting out of this. If this theoretical patch did exist, it sounds like a little diluted coffee wouldn't hurt.

there is a theory that the role of caffeine in the coffee plant is for nitrogen storage, and also coffee is very rich in potassium.

so N and K could perhaps be one of the keys for those results.

i'd test it first to see if it draws bugs, etc. by spraying it on an ordinary patch of ground and give it a few days

12 jars, popcorn, soaked in 50/50 for 12 hours, simmered for one hour, drained 35 minutes, loaded and pc'd for 1:15, used somebody's moronic filter tek using paint masks for air exchange... I've never seen so much mould in my life.

To whoever suggested that paint masks make good filters, you suck.

Sadly, no more shrooms gret after about 8-10 more gigantic ones matured... The casing also did get contamed. I think the growing stopped due to all the nutrients being used up, though (straw rarely gives more then a good 2-3 flushes anyways from what I hear), and the contams were likely from neglect of proper cleanliness towards the end.

I recently made some jars with Horse poo, straw, BRF nad verm.
Can can i let them colonize into the light from the beggining in order to shorten the pinning process?? (for in-vitro)
Is cultivation of Pans in-vitro possible? Does it worth a try?

Thanx

I have another thought too...this is especially to Roger, since you seem to think that its the nutrients in coffee..what about other substances that produce mold quickly? I left some pinapple juice out and was thick with mold after 2 days. I'm sure theres other stuff too, would this be worth trying out?

Fruit juices contain many nutrients that are good for mold . And what is good for mold is good for mycelium , so yes give it a try but dont forget that is really acid so need to be diluated or a little basified .

So how about using flat, partially dehydrated Mountain Dew in place of honey water for a mycellium stew for inoculating, etc? I may try that once I have some old cakes to grind up. The report a while ago about the spores direct into coffee which blew up quick made me wonder, and dew is even sugary like honey.
