Build your own WiFi access point

Wireless home networking can be a pain if the signal isn't strong enough to reach the corners of your home/property where eager users and their computers are demanding a stronger WiFi signal for your 802.11x network.

Why spend $30-$100 on a pringles can and some wire with a brand name on it when you can build your own WiFi access point using a pringles can and some wire.

I think those homemade antennas work on 802.11b only.

If you have an extra computer lying around and need an access point,
just get wifi card,and a nic, install linux and hostap.

You can make the computer an access point as well as download some pretty nice live cds where you can actually administer your own public hotspot.

You have to make them to pick up the right wavelength, so they could work for any wavelength.

Within reason... I don't know of any configuration of a pringle can are going to pick up a wave at 420nm for example.

too bad wirless is absolutly unsecure encryped or not. im sticking to wired until they fix the whole key broadcasting thing
