I'm looking for some more ambient/soundscape type artists to check out. Stuff along the lines of Steve Roach/Vidna Obmana, Aphex twin's selected ambient works and all of that. Thanks in advance for any help on finding new music

I've just bought an album called Stalker by Robert Rich, which is about as ambient as it gets. It's almost pure soundscape.
Also, try a CD called "Hydroponic Garden" by Carbon Based Lifeforms. Just bought it on Saturday and tripped with it.. really nice dreamy music.
And the "Deep and Chilled Euphoria" compilation is awesome too.
By the way, anyone living in or around London- if you go to Camden market there is a shop called the Psychedlic Dream Temple and it is stacked to the roof with all the best psy/goa/chill music imaginable. Plus they have books and DVDs.. I could spend hours in that place!

klaus schulze - he's been at it since the days of ash ra temple in the early 70s. look for 'timewind' - a beautiful space cruise - or 'x'.
also this guy builds his own synthesizers and makes ambient music on them - http://home.debitel.net/user/jhaible/hj.html

Porter Ricks - "biokinetics" basic channel - "basic channel compilation"
^ both of these cds are pretty chilled out but not pure ambient soundscape as some of the songs have beats
biosphere - "substrata" : excellent
william basinski - "disentegration loops" : repetitive, but really really hypnotic
**oval - "94 diskont" I highly recommend this album; this is probably the absolute best ambient cd I have ever heard - listen to this with headphones**

Oh yeah, how could I forget, Future Sounds of London
I totally love them, great ambient stuff, psychedelic, albums like "lifeforms" and "dead cities" may really bring you to some other place.
I have had an entire trip listening to Future Sounds of London, it was divine!

Band of Bees is not ambient really, but they are definatly a background type music... i enjoy them. for things along the line of ambient works.... thats tough, richard d james is so good. future sound of londons, lifeforms discs are really good ambience. Boards of Canada is my favorite electronic ambience artist right now, especially geogaddi and twoism. you might also want to pick up some of Bachs organ music, John But does an amazing live organic of Bachs 6 trio sonatas. beautiful stuff, though not along the lines of the stuff you mentioned sorry PS you might really want to pick up a colaboration that Richard D James did with a Michael james, i believe? it is titled "Expert knob twiddlers" and is my favorite RDJ material to date, it can be INCREDABLY spacey at times. peace

Lookin' for the chillist of the chillist ambient artist? Look up Tycho, hands down he is genius. You might wanna check out the album "The Science of Patterns" firstly. They have the two upmost relaxing, vibing tunes, "Red Bridge" (My Favorite) and "Systems". Sincerely phenomenal music. http://tychomusic.com/ Later enjoy
