its also notable that posts throughout the thread suggest that caffeine isnt the active ingredient that is causing a change, and it is suggested that its possibly the nutrients... no one knows anything though.

He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest--a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."

alrighty my experiment is inconclusive, i forgot to photograph the coffee soak only but it yeilded only 6 grams wet less than the soak and simmer so that is really no difference, similar results off two theres done the same way

only thing I have really noticed is when soaked in coffee, my contam rate goes down about 2 jars per 20 jars consistantly

I made 6 pf tek 300 ml jars, 3 with normal recipe, 3 with 50/50 water coffee. The coffee ones colonized a little bit faster but not much. When i put them in the fruiting chamber their was only enough room for 4, 2 of each type. The other 2 i just left in a dark place since i was too lazy to do anything. The 2 coffee ones had a lot more shrooms than the non-coffee ones. Also of the 2 i left in the dark and forgot about, the coffee one fruited invitro and the normal one did not. After their later flushes i will dunk one of each in coffee to see if they confirm that coffee dunks help.

say, someone soaks grain in coffee, or even simmeres them in a diluted
coffee solution and uses these grains to inoculate with a spore syringe.

would the mycelium developing on the coffee'd grains actually adapt
the benefits of it, say, colonising real fast into its DNA?

i am wondering because of the following:

if one did a batch of jars, say 6, 3 of them coffee treaded the others
just with plain old water.

these jars are inoculated with the same sporesyringe, the coffee jars
colonise abour 30% faster (in therory) and all jars are used to be
spawned to grain spawnbags.

these spawnbags were just prepared simmering the grain in PLAIN water.

would the spawn from the coffee'd jars actually colonise the bags faster
due to the mycelium originally developed in the coffee environment,
or would the colonisation time of these two 'sorts' of bags
be more or less equal?

that would be really interesting, since if it were to go on colonising
at high speed, that must show that the actual dna of the mycelium
has integrated the ability to grow faster due to whatever fact in
the coffee that may trigger that.

I did the soak wbs in half coffee for like 16 hours no simmering four days ago inoc'ed with spores. Just check today to see if mycelium has started. It started but not as quickly as expected though I saw the weirdest thing. Out of a clump of wbs a mushroom is already growing. No joke its about 3/4 of an inch long. Wish I had a camera. that happened in one of 12 jar only once so its a fluke but wow. Wish I had a camera. I have no control jars so I doubt I could contribute significantly with this project.

This makes me almost afraid that there will be many pins forming before 100% colonization. I hope that will not be the case.

didn't happen to me on like 6 runs so far, I always use coffee now with wbs or rye and I have yet to get a single invitro pin, did you have them in the light

Ive done quite a few 15-30 jars with GT, nothing like this has happened infact its surprising how long a jar can sit in the Incubator for without pinning.

penlight- I placed the jars in a tub inside a a cabinet that is using lights to keep things warm in the cabinet. I just check to see if light is getting through and yes it is so yes there's light. It only happened in one jar with a small clump that now has two small shrooms. I really think its a fluke though. I'm thinking if I want to stop the light or not.

switch to a TiT (Tub In Tub) or if push comes to shove wrap the jars in foil or garbage bags so light won't hit the contents

There are plenty of decent feedbacks within the thread - perhaps you should take the time to read it?

i did, all of it, every single word.

and yes, there is some feedback. but not really that good or conclusive. i expexted side-by-side comparisons of more that just two cakes at a time, perferably with pictures.

and what about the pure caffein dunk/spray?

Believe it or not i read through all these posts. I can say it could be concluded that in certain situtations coffee works. i guess the best thing anyone could do is just try it in thier setup to find if it works for themselves, otherwise i doubt a standard for coffee use will be established any time soon.

So coffee speeds up colonization and pinning times. thats well and all, but the question remains:

Does coffee affect the potentcy of the mushrooms?
