Some PE on oats
PE tub spawned Saturday 11/7 w/ 5 quarts rye grain to CVG, saved 2 quarts for casing
Your oats look beautiful brotha, I can't get enough of them. What's your prep method? I literally do it different every time. This time around I let them boil too long and I loaded them wet. I have a few bursts but 95% are intact. I was smoking and forgot the water was on
Keep me posted on that tub mayne, is that MS?

Thanks, no soak boiled around 40 min until a few burst, loaded when they only left a barely visible small spot on a paper towel. PC'd 2 hours @ 17 psi. They really swelled in the PC, I shook them after I got them out and they almost filled the jar up, lol. First time with oats, so far so good.
Def will keep you posted on the tub, MS agar/3 transfers > grain

Limited MS grow, niiiice ,
Yeah, my regular prep is a 10-15 minute boil and then I leave in the pot for about five minutes with the heat off until it looks like they've started the "doubling process", that point where they get really fat, and then I strain and load wet as soon as I can pick them up with my bare hands.
That method almost never gets bursts and they suck up the remaining water and plump up. That's when I remember to turn off the stove

It happens, ppl were saying they are hard to screw up and cheap I was thinking that sounds like the grain for me I took a break from smoking for a few weeks and broke over yesterday That method sounds good too, loving all the options and @ 16$/50lb what little bit I do that bag will last me a long time.

You should be fine in the fridge with those, just make sure that bag a a few holes, they get nasty if you don't.

Awesome, opted for an open bowl in the fridge instead since they're gonna get thrown into the dehydrator in about four hours

Gotta love WBS!! It's my go-to-grain, and I've tried rye berries and oats already.
The colonization times are always high for my WBS jars. Small grain size is definitely what you want if you're dropping a tiny wedge of agar in there. It'll give the mycelium a better chance to spread out and colonize the interior of a single grain.

This is exactly how I do my oats and I've been very happy! It's been recommended I try soaking, but I have yet to do so, mainly because I've had nothing but good to report without the soak. No contamination issues as some have implied will happen over the soaked grains. I did accidentally over boil my 3rd batch of oats by 20 minutes or so but other than a few burst grains, I can't say I noticed a huge difference. Hooray for oats!

I like using both. Right now I use oats in my master jars because they seem to hold moisture better and I usually inoculate with a little too much Li. I like WBS in my bags because I started grains wit WBS and am able to produce a lot quickly using Fooman's method.

I have a shit ton of WBS from my first set of jars. I was really happy with the bins just not the prep. I need to either throw the seed in the freezer or do something with it. Probably easier to freeze it until I need it.
