i was thinking an ozarka jug, then using a balloon or condom with zip or twist ties attach the top of the jug to a tube thats routed into a cup a bleach for the burping system thing. Sounds like it would work, huh?

Its better to use vodka than bleach for your airlock device but plain water is fine. A real air lock is only like 75cents but yeah the ol cork and tube into water works in a pinch... Any kind of big jug is ok...

6.5 gallon buckets. Look for a home brew store around you. They are literally everywhere

a ballon with a pinhole in it over the mouth will work if your really cheap. A proper one is 99p online.
A gallon bottle of water will do just the same job as that conical one but cost like 1% of the cost (even less if you factor in the $35 stand). In a supermarket they're under £1. Buckets are cheap too and work nicely for beer.
People can brew in prison, it really doesn't need fancy and expensive equipment.

Screw fermenters. Ferment in your kettle, just sanitize your lid. The Co2 output from fermentation will make a blanket on your beer and protect from any oxygen. On day 4-6 transfer into your keg and add a dry hop sack if you want give the hops a few days at fermentation temps then cold shock. After a week use a transfer tube to push the beer off the yeasts into a purged keg. And cut 1" off all your kegs dip tubes to leave the settled crap at the bottom.
If i do use a fermenter its a 6.5 gal pail with a drum tap spigot that accepts a 1/2 silicone hose for gravity transfers into kegs. I also use only S plastic airlocks, the three piece sound nice but always break. Dont mess with carboys unless you want one to break and permanently handicap you.

I do small batches in growlers, and large in plastic buckets (plastic breathes, so it's really not ideal).
I'd like to get a conical fermenter with multiple spouts to collect yeast (very useful), but metal ones are pretty expensive and not particularly easy DIY.

A spigot on the bottom of your kettle is all you really need to collect yeast. Pour some pressure cooked water in and gently mix it in with a sanitized spoon to break up the cake so it flows better, especially with your highly flocculant english ale yeasts that pour like cottage cheese. American ale or lager yeasts don't need much coercing to get into a jar for washing or storage for later use.

This is a pretty good idea if you only want to have one batch going at a time. The spigot also allows you to dump trub after the boil, which is something I'd recommend. If you want to do more than one batch at a time nothing beats the tried and true glass carboys, these are the most popular thing for fermenters for a reason. Namely they keep out o2 and and are easy to clean.
