Dedicated pc for gaming?

I was thinking about just dropping the cash on a new tower and making it just for pc gaming. I wont go all out quantum processer top of the line quad gfx card, water cooled...not that loaded. But i was thinking of getting one with FO4 recommended requirements, ya you see where im going with this. And not load junk software. What OS would be ideal for something like this? Win10? Linux? And would i need a Anti Malware and Virus and all that jazz? I'm wanting to get a bare bone power house. Not even loading pictures or music on it. Just for Gaming.

If you want to play new games windows 10 is probably a good idea. I love linux but it's not great for gaming.

^^^ Don't even consider Linux for a dedicated gaming rig. Sure, you can play lots of games on Linux with some fanangeling.. but it's a pain in the dick. And lots of games just plain wont work.

Thanks, I'm dropping 1,239.00 on a tower at my local private owned pc shop, gonna get it either monday or Wednesday. It's got 8coreI7, 970 or 980 gtx cant remember, a slick military style case, 8g ram, 2tb hd, 850w power. Dude said it comes with a free W10 upgrade. It was a custom build, that some guy sold for (insert whatever real reason) but it looks sweet. Definitely a upgrade from what i got now.
One thing, the games I'm going to play recommend a 64bit. I plan on making sure the upgrade is the 64bit, but would it play at all if it was a 32bit?

Sounds pretty slick - I think the part that will most likely limit you first is your RAM - I have 8gb as well and a similarish build and it's usually the first thing to cap in certain situations. Fortunately 16gb isn't really expensive.
And 64bit will perform more efficently but 32bit in any case will be just fine as well - fully compatible.

I can build you one for cheaper than they are asking.

brick and mortar pc shops tend to have a high cost increase because they need that much more profit to survive. Thats most likely why.

Steam works on arch linux. Quite well i might add. Ive only tried kerbal space (only I got)
And minecraft
Im sure diablo if I tried (not gonna)
Though I wont try bluestacks either.
A casual gaming rig would be boss because of linux. But your right about dedicated... Although those games they out perform win7.

I cant tell you how relieved im am. I did some searching and the answers i got was they should run all the time. Is it just for this model or something? I know the card i have now a gtx 560 runs soon as start up and stays on then runs hard under load.

My 680 vid card fans run all the time, just usually barely moving when at the desktop, and they fire up fast when I put the card under load in a game or something.
Are you sure they are completely not running? What happens if you load up a game and start playing, do they spin up then?
If you can visually validate they are not moving at all, even when using the PC for gaming, then there is something wrong.
If they start spinning up when you play games and stuff, then everything is working as intended and they are just not running because there is no heat load to need to be removed.

An 8 core i7? I'm guessing it's probably a 4 core i7 with hyperthreading (which is perfect for badass gaming.) Make sure it has an SSD for your Windows boot up. It's a cheap addition that makes all the difference in the world when it comes to the responsiveness of your PC. You can get a small SSD just to install windows on for under $100 if the PC doesn't already have one, I can't recommend it enough. I'm sure it's 64 bit windows so don't worry about that.

Some newer graphics cards and PSU fans only spin when needed. "Eco-mode" or some shit. The fans wont kick on until about 60-65c.

My new rig... i noticed the power supply is only 850w, i know with my old pc i ended up having to get a 900w. I don't know if this will interfere with gaming on the new games or not. And since i bought it used, i dont have the comfort of knowing it's history like my old one. Oh well, it is what it is. As long as it games. Has a free upgrade to W10 64bit 8core AMD CPU 48gb System Memory 2tb HD 4gb GTX 970 DVD-RW Built in 10/100 on motherboard, whatever that means Built in sound, video came with Gaming Razor mouse and keyoard

My old pc, been through the thick and thin, many years of enjoyment, and anger. She's like a piece of me. Still running strong and using her now. Something like 8 0r 9 years now.

This could be power saving
or your power supply isn't strong enough.

Had an MSI GTX 960 Currently running an EVGA GTX 980 ti
The fans only run when it passes a certain heat threshold as Shroomism mentioned. Since you have an EVGA card, if you really want to, you can get EVGA PrecisionX to change your fan temperature curve or set the fans to always be active, but it is not necessary.
