I feel what youre saying but a part of me feels like the reason hes so successful is BECAUSE hes got that belly. I mean honestly, the punishment to the body he takes is insane. in all of the fights where hes taken severe damage, his body was beaten badly but his fat seems to absorb all the punishment. Barnett hit him with a couple of deadly kicks to the liver last night that didn't even phase him the least bit. and n when he fought stipe, he also was taking massive punishment to the midsection and showed no signs of being hurt.
the dude loves food, its no secret. and he knows hes not athletic enough to compete with the divisions elite even if he loses weight, so he sticks to his bread n butter. mcy d's, and overhand rights.

he used to play football and I think another sport, if he lost the weight he would easily be althletic enough. He wouldn't take half the shots he takes if he wasn't so gassed he'd be able to get out of the way. That's why josh repeatedly was able to lock up his head for knee's. what other fighter in all of mma lets himself get locked up like that 10 times a round?

Some dudes are just strong in the clinch. See what Anderson silva did to rich Franklin TWO times consecutively. Rich was also regarded as one of the top p4p fighters in the world at the time too.

makaveli8x8 said: im just seriously sick of how god dam lazy roy is, dude gets fatter every time I see him, career circling the drain and he goes in there, looks at acts dispointed the entire fight, then pretends he hasn't a clue why he lost. if all the dude wants to do is throw haymakers he should go into K1 or boxing, but he'd look even worse because he'd never land a single punch. if he lost the weight he would have a chance at a title shot, he's younger, or at least looks younger than most of the heavyweights but he'll never do shit if he gas's 30 seconds into his walk to the ring
He's funny, but I'm not a fan of his attitude either. He prides himself as a finisher and has lost 5 out of 6 of his last.
Roy Nelson is 39, so he's no spring chicken. He's also older than most of the top fighters in the division. That being said, HW division is abnormally old compared to the other divisions. Possible evidence of it being a shallow talent pool in the MMA world.
Given his body type and age, Roy may have tremendous difficulty losing weight. And if he did lose his excess fat, he'd probably be a very small heavyweight. Besides being fat, he doesn't appear to be a huge guy in terms of bone structure. Heck, if he were chiseled, it wouldn't surprise me if he can make light heavyweight.

if you don't think 80% of those clinches happened because he was gassed then im not sure what to tell you

Hendricks pulled from 192 due to weight cutting issues. Forced to middleweight, woodley "promised" next title shot

Not his first time with weight-cutting issues.
Poor Tyron Woodley. Carlos Condit injury, Kelvis Gastelum failing his cut, and now this.
Sucks. That was probably the fight I was most looking forward to.

His knockout of Josh Koscheck is one of my favorite of all time. Maybe also because it was Josh Koscheck.

northcutt looks legit. I still don't know why hes got a 1990's haircut like that, but....
n honestly, im glad Trevino got knocked the fuck out. dude came in 5 pounds overweight. then pushed herb dean after the fight was called. super unprofessional. gonna be glad to see the suspension he gets for putting his hands on a referee.

Yea that kid is still a teenager. What are they gonna do when he gets his "man-strength" somewhere around the age of 24? lol

I kinda enjoyed those time more.... Remember you'd have a boxer going against a black belt karate person
Now its majorly Jujitsu striking vs Jujitsu striking spiced with some wrestling and kickboxing.

it was better when no one knew how to fight because it usually ended up the person with the more skilled discipline obliterating the other person using that technique.
now theres counters to EVERYTHING. n everyone is so skilled in every discipline that u usually end up having everyone cancel each other out essentially. I still love mma but shit, if I can fall asleep to a ufc card nowadays, SOMETHING is wrong.
