Ya i saw fear and loathing on my first shroom trip, it was amazing, all the colors, all the madness, i mean you watch the movie in a dark room by yourself and at the end you feel high...it just sucks you in
i only got through like half of it and then i was orbiting the moon and totally lost track of the movie...the walls were much more entertaining at the time

I too enjoy watching the "Great Family Fun!" and "Truely Riviting!" and "Utterly Horrifying" and "Sensationally Witty" and "Outrageously Funny!"and "Oscar-Worthy" productions that my mind puts on for itself.
BUT, if you're watching movies, I'd say Waking Life.
I recommend watching Shpongle too..... its music, but you can watch it with "heightened senses"
-------------------- Insert an "I think" mentally in front of eveything I say that seems sketchy, because I certainly don't KNOW much. Also; feel free to yell at me.
In addition: SHPONGLE

you'll never be the same again

Even now, if I see in my soul the citron-breasted fair one
Still gold-tinted, her face like our night stars,
Drawing unto her; her body beaten about the flame,
Wounded by the flaring spear of love,

Then is my heart buried alive in snow.
The universe is transformation: life is opinion.

I haven't heard of Waking Life what's it all about? My top pick would have to be Fansasia. Not Fantasia 2000 though, I thought the computer animation and line animation didn't mesh very well. I also like Akira. It's an anime film that is kinda dark for my taste, but nevertheless stunning visually and mind expanding. I would have to agree that The BIg Lebowski was a fun one. First time I watched it I was tripping. I used to REALLY like The Wall, but I think I overdid it with that one. It's kinda dark anyways for my current taste. I find fear and loathing very visually stunning, but it gets so dark and sinister towards the end. I can't even hardly watch the last half sober.

By this merit, may all attain omniscience.
May it defeat the enemy, wrong doing.
From the stormy waves of birth, old age, sickness and death,
from the ocean of samsara,
may I free all beings.

Waking Life is hard to describe. The most readily noticeable thing is the animation over live action method. I know some people who didn't like it, but had to agree it meshed wonderfully with tripping.
Yeah, I suppose What Dreams... is kinda corny at the end, but it is supposed to be an instruction manual, of sorts. But it is most beautiful to watch

My favorite movie to trip to was the doors. I came up fast when they were tripping in the desert and it was fucking amazing. unfortunetaly, when the one guy starts saying "i hate my father" it hit some bad cords with me (i have issues) and the fact that i was tripping with some strange burnout guy made the trip a little rough. I started hearing disturbing things in the movie like "oh god. why is it this way? it feels wrong" and whatnot. I eventually had some sort of seizure after stripping down to my boxers on the bathroom floor. 2 days after the trip i watched the movie, noticing that it seemed so much busier when i was tripping; cool overall movie though.
although this is the only movie ive tripped to, i would die to trip to one of those old fantasy movies they made bunched of in the 80's; you know the ones; elves, goblins, monsters, and craziness. something like "LEGEND"

I love watching Alice in Wonderland when I'm trippin. The disney one is cool but the one with Martin Short in it is a great mind fuck.

Dune & Children of Dune
Not the old one but the new one. Are you nuts? Its one of my best movie-trips EVER! Its not only the visuals but the subject matter. "The spice is the worm, and the worm is the spice." Its substance abuse taken to its highest levels!

Not only are they great movies, but the extended editions fit the time frame at just around 4 hours.

Watched Yellow submarine on the comedown of a trip on a 54" T.V. I wish I was still tripping hard and had loud surround sound but still, it's like nothing else. This movie is excellent because the plot is simple, and even if you are too messed to understand it you will still appreciate the music and visuals.

Waking Life...I agree. It was trippy to watch sober!
How about a few you won't find in the new releases section...
"The Fearless Hyena" (one of Jackie Chan's earlier films...AMAZING)
"They Live" (John Carpenter, starring Rowdy Roddy Piper...anyone remember him? On the surface its a pretty cheesy action/aliens movie...but with a little *ahem* augmentation its pretty deep)
"200 Motels" (Frank Zappa...'nuff said)
If you like to be disturbed, I challenge you to watch "Dead Alive" while beshroomed...not for the sqeamish

I don't know enough about 2C-I to tell you what goes well specifically with it.
Ok - acidheads: find Emergency Broadcast Network. Watch while peaking. It's not really a movie - but it'll blow your mind.

Two movies for shrooms that should appeal to the solo tripper:
AMELIE Pee Wee's Big Adventure
Both of these movies feature main characters that exist in ordinary settings but who also understand that wonder exists all around.
Both are great on a straight mind but become so much more with a little help.
The colour spectrum used in both lend themselves well to psychedelics and their soundtracks are incredible.
Pee Wee's big adventure is not a kids movie. The sub text is actually very creepy. But as you following PeeWee as he goes from place to place and the off beat discoveries and comments he makes you'll see that it translates well to a shroom trip.
Only watch the french version of AMELIE (with english subtitles). Because, like any movie on shrooms your mind wanders in and out of the story. The foreign language really stimulates your brain and aids your own imagination.
These movies should only be a starter. They will motivate you to get out and see how incredible life really is.

Any Pink Floyd album with a good Winamp visualization will keep you entertained for hours on end. Well. Scratch that. Pick an album from your favorite band, put on the Winamp visualizations, and you'll be entertained through your entire trip.
I'll definitely agree on Fear and Loathing. That movie makes the most sense while you're hallucinating. Animatrix, also excellent. If you're really brave, and not easily rattled, I'd recommend The Ring. But really, during an intense trip, the only movies you'll be seeing are the ones in your head :P

I would have to go with Akira or, I know this sounds dumb, but Rock & Rule, Its like an 80's cartoon with Iggy pop as the bad guy and cheap trick, blondie and earth wind& fire doing the soundtrack, Its fun. and obviously fear&loathing , alice in wonderland, cube, altered states, the first matrix, dark city, and samurai jack episodes.

The Disney version of Alice In Wonderland is really difficult to find over here these days! I can't imagine a better film for tripping (although I'll obviously take the other suggestions into account!)
Donnie Darko would probably be good to watch while tripping, assuming you'd seen it before.
But whoever suggested 'Requiem for a dream' is just trying to fool you! It is one of the most fucked up films I've ever seen. I definately couldnt handle watching it on a trip!

The movie is just way too intense for my tripping tastes, but I can see how it would really draw people into it. Just brace yourself for the ending Talk about a downer

The only one that hasn't been mentioned already that I've enjoyed is Metropolis. It's this crazy anime with a really nice soundtrack. The ending can be a bit heavy, but hey, so's any good mindfuck.
Aside from that, Yellow Submarine, The Wall, Naked Lunch, Dark Crystal, The Labyrinth, Fear and Loathing...

i cant remember which song it was, but on the moby dvds there is this awesome cartoon with this guy traveling around the world picking up companions from different cultures. I watched it on a friends projector and that night the movie made total sense. It was mind blowing for some strange reason.
I just sat there and felt sooooo damn comfortable. It was beautiful.

Changing channels every 3-5 seconds is really fun for me and can interest me for long periods of time, try it some time well tripping!(I'm not exactly normal though, so if your board don't blame my goodtimes, haha) I'm not really interested in watching tv for hours but i would like to see Fantasia, how is it when on the M&M's?

I just saw neverending story for the first time since I was a kid earlier today.
I would imagine that some of hayao miyazake's (spirited away, princess mononoke, my neighbor totoro) movies might be pretty good.

I'd say movie that made me trip hard was "Requiem of a Dream", it was so intense (I highly suggest not watching this movie on any drugs). It was really disturbing but messed up, great movie though.

ferngully "the last rainforest" we all remember that from being a kid. Mushrooms always make me see and sense more mushrooms and this movie is full of them with such a surreal light it just sets off a mush trip for me.
darkside of oz was alright , something to try once, but not as big as alot of people have made it seem.
Watch any move on Dvd or vhs in fast forward.....omg!

There is this animated movie, I cannot remember the name. It is animated but it is done like a collage, so there are swirls of animation in every scene. The movie goes through all these ethnicitys and each one explains there peception on life and what they think the meaning of life is. And the collidoscope of animations makes it seem like they are making these crazy faces. I rememder the African guy's eyebrows kept moving up on his face, I was mesmorized. Anyway I was watching it with my friends and it ended and the the regular channel came on and they also were explaining life. So I wasnt sure if the movie had ended or not. That blew my mind. If anyone knows the name of that movie please remind me.

i'm not sure if anyone's seen it but the movie "Cool World" is pretty darn crazy. It's half animated but the main character in it is real life and those little animations tripped the hell out of me. I remember one little weird mickey mouse-like creature and he was waving his his hands slowly over his head - it mesmerized me, i can't explain it. It has Kim Basinger in it and Brad Pitt. You need to have it perfectly timed. Then you'll see and hear some crazy shit. Oompa loompas dancing to music, the scare crow dancing to a crazy breakdown beat, the witch pantamining smoking a cig while the band goes "won't you hold my light" (as witch extands hand towards alice), the obvious "black ... blue ..." one. " 'Now listen, son' said the man with the gun" synced up with the scarecrow (holding a pistol) talking to the tin man. Or the group calling at the gaurd at the gate a shithead and telling him to let them in.
You need to be concentrainting hard on the music and have it synced JUST right. Then it becomes excellent.

Don't really watch telly/films whilst tripping, especially after getting very disturbed whilst trying to watch Chorlton & the Wheelies.
BASEketball was quite funny until Trey Parker looked like a zombie and pointed at me.
Jodorowsky's films might be good, very visual, Holy Mountain is the ultimate trip film.

Fantasia, Fantasia 2000, Heavy Metal, Heavy Metal 2000, Fern Gully, Alice in wonderland, yellow submarine, South Park movie, The Dark Crystal, Lord of the rings cartoons, Cool World, darkside of the rainbow, Return to OZ, All of these are excellent when tripping, as well as several others which I probably forgot to mention, I have trouble choosing favorites though. I think anything thats mellow, happy, funny, colorful, or completly spaced out will make for a good trip movie

Microcosmos.
The name itself says "watch this when frying!":) Amazing insect movie. Up close detailed footage of all different insects. Very artsy. Music matches the scene. Watch it. I garentee you wont regret taking the time to download it or go out and rent it (if you could find it in stores)

I personally don't like to stare at a television when I'm tripping, I feel like I'm wasting my time. I'd rather be outside enjoying the scenery, smoking a cigarette, or talking to a friend. One of my best trips was conducted at my friend's house and we walked around his neighborhood, talking and laughing all night. We even have a few highlights we both introduce others to when they trip around his house... Nature is my movie.

When I was about 7 my sister and I watched The shining and halfway through the power went out and we were there alone, it was the scariest thing in the world, I love that Movie but since I've grown up it just doesn't scare me like it used to.... A couple years ago I decided to watch it while on LSD....WOW!!! It was the creepiest thing in the fucking world, I LOVED IT! I appreciated so much more about that movie, especially the visually captivating camera angles and the freaky spine tingling music(Kubrick RULES!!). Maybe I am just weird but sometimes I'm just in the mood to be creeped out and pairing up The Shining with LSD did the trick, didn't quite make it through the whole movie though. Had to stop it and turn on all the lights around the time Danny encountered the girls in the hall but I was diggin how it made my skin crawl the way it used to.
"From the opening aerial sequence of Jack driving to the hotel in the little yellow VW Beetle, the audience know that they are entering the domain of Stanley Kubrick and the impressive visuals therein."
"I would not think of quarrelling with your interpretation nor offering any other, as I have found it always the best policy to allow the film to speak for itself."
- Stanley Kubrick.
Aloso I just finished watching "The Truman Show" while baked, loved it. Truman's quest for true reality was fucking right on the money!!
and I agree HEAD by the Monkees is among my top 5.

I wondered if there was a thread like this floating around...!!!!!! OK, I don't know how many people have ever even heard of these, but there are new kind of 3D movie that uses "shutter" glasses.... I dunno~ how long they have been around, I found mine on EBAY.... They have one movie called "Alien Adventure" (they are all pretty cool), and it is KiK ASS REAL 3D futuristic rollercoaster type rides.... It is the same quality as the Spiderman ride in Universal Studios down in Florida....!!! I shyt you not, it is by FAR the best movie one can watch while trippin on shroooomz....! Talk about a ride...!
Cons, they do not work on plasma screens, and you had better not be epileptic....!
I would be willing to put money on the fact that nobody who has seen this movie could argue with me - as being the best trip toy movie you have ever seen....!

"The Tune" by Bill Plympton is truly designed to entertain the tripper. The DVD is pretty hard to find, I was on an amazon waiting list and grabbed the first one that came along at $65. Pretty twisted and funny animated musical.

Fear and Loathing Matrix & Matrix Reloaded Alice in Wonderland
Fear and Loathing is my favorite followed closely by Matrix. Fear and loathing has u feeling like ur in the movie cause u feel like they do in the movie. Matrix is also awesome because of the dialog, "take this and ull never be the same" "your mind is holding u back" "believe and u can do it" thats crazy ish when ur shrooming

2001: A Space Odyssey
Profound flick, absolutely blew my mind. Slightly odd, considering A Clockwork Orange, Full Metal Jacket, Lolita, and Sparticus would all be seemingly unsettling. Anyways, Kubrick really did me in with 2001.

Alice In Wonderland. The Disney cartoon version, of course
Pablo_Escobar caught my second favorite trip movie! "2001: A Space Odyssey" is fantastic when you're tripping.

The classic disney cartoons "The Jungle Book" and "Robbin Hood". Pretty trippy but I think the yellow submarine would be the most trippy.

I'm surprised no one mentioned Charlie Kaufmann; "Being John Malkovich", "Adaptation", and especially "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind"; all mind-blowing while sober.
Also, I concur with "Spirited Away" as the finest Anime I've yet seen while tripping (though there are PLENTY to try!).

I'm not sure I would enjoy Donnie Darko while tripping...it gives me chills watching it alone at night as it is, that fucking bunny is hideously scary.
So I have to disrecommend that one while tripping, unless you've seen it enough times before hand.

They were supposed to play What the Bleep Do We Know at a theater here, then they changed their minds I guess, I was dissappointed, but I will be getting it on DVD when it comes out. I guess it's a must-see for anyone interested in conceptual reality.

I liked Man on Fire on 2C-E, it seemed to bring the good vibrations with the surround sound and all. The Royal tenenbaums is a good movie to trip on shrooms with, it makes the movie have no plot but fun to watch. Theres several movies that I dont reccomend for tripping that people mentioned, Requiem for a Dream? I can take take the meltdown scene in the end on a trip. And a bad experience is the movie Cube. That movie on shrooms is really mind breaking and claustrophobic.
