Here is a habitat shot:
I look for areas with lots of down beech wood. Most of the good logs have been decomposing for around 5 to 10 years. This area was close to an active stream and on a gentle slope.
I also find some good black trumpet spots near bluefoot habitats!
Great finds.
I really appreciate the habitat shots, the areas I've been searching look just like the for the most part. We had a 1/4" of rain Monday but still no luck with the Caerulipes in Southern Ontario.

I think that's the most prolific pic of Caerulipes I've ever seen. That's awesome.

Here is a closer look at my friends find:
One of the best clusters of caerulipes that I have ever had the pleasure of holding! He let me borrow a couple to try and take some prints. They were found on the edge of a washout from a woodchip bed that has been there for at least 6 years. It has had a few layers of chips thrown down over those years. All the woodchips are from the surrounding natural hardwood forest, mostly beech birch and oak.
I found these ones nearby: These pins had most of the white spots washed off during the heavy rains we received two days ago. You can still see the remains of the spots on the cap margin. I watered and covered this patch and will hopefully be returning in a day or two.
Bluefoot season is in full swing in the mountains of New England. Get out and explore!

the size of some of those and those clusters are amazing, they make mine look like nothing my profile pic is a cluster I found years ago.

when is my best chance to find these in Southern New England? How far south can they be found?
I am guessing it is still a bit too warm...?

How far south are you? I know they have been found down in the mountains and hills of Virginia. Keep an eye on temperatures to find the right window. Then get out and hunt after heavy rainfall.
The season up here has come to a stop. We had good rain last week but now it is hot and dry this week. Highs near 90F with abundant sunshine has dried up most of my habitats.
These are from the patch of pins found last week, and a comparison photo when I went back to check on them after keeping it watered for 3 days. turned into:
and one more lone soldier:
Only another week of the best fruiting season remains up here, hopefully we get more rain soon!

I am hunting in Southern MA, RI, & sometimes SE CT. My edible season here has also come to a screeching halt with this weather, although i did find a decent chicken yesterday.
I will keep my eyes open for p. caerulipes as things ramp back up...
Thanks!
