Psilocybe Cubensis "Ecuador" WBS Cased
    #2202173 - 12/26/03 12:44 PM (20 years, 3 months ago)

This particular grow was started the 7th of this month.

I soaked my WBS (minus the sunflower seeds) for 18 hours, rinsed with cold tap water, filled my pint jars 5/6 full, loaded 'em in the PC, and cooked 'em for 1.5 hours. I knocked 'em up with 2.5 cc's per jar using a nice Ecuador spore syringe I got from a friend (thanks pal). They were incubated at a constant 85.2 degrees Fahrenheit for 12 days. I cased 'em on the 21st with straight coco coir that was nuked for 10 minutes, covered with foil, and then incubated at 84 degrees. I'm going to let 'em go until tomorrow and then place them in the fruiting chamber.

Question/Comments?

Casing #4 --

Casing #3 --

Casing #2 --

Casing #1 --

Fruiting Update -- Here's some pictures I just took. I didn't want to open the chamber. Enjoy.

Update - 01/05/04 -- Gettin' bigger!

First Harvest (2 casings) -- Here they are.

The next two pictures are of the casings that were harvested.

Last Harvest (last 2 casings) --

Harvest of this casing below.

Harvest of this casing below.

These ended up being some smaller fruits, but they sure are pretty and plentiful! EQ is a good strain!

Since I'm too cheap to go out and purchase a new Cool Mist Humidifier and I can't seem to find any at garage sales, these casings will be fruited via perlite humidification (I've got to change my ways. Maybe I should switch to Geolite, it's so much cleaner) and air exchange will be provided via bubbler rods. I'm reluctant to use my new dual shop light fixture as it uses two 20 watt fluorescent tubes and I usually use only one. Do you think that's too much power or will it be fine?

Note - Ever since I made the switch from incandescent bulbs to fluorescents, my casings have produced better pin-sets and have yielded many more mushrooms. Just make sure to get the cool white tubes rather than the warm whites.

I am on my first casing and I dont know if its the coir or the strain(LIPA) or the light but I think now it could be the light, thats giving me SUCH AN AMAZING PINSET

I want to even take regualr pics(no digi) so I can maybe get them scaned , this pin set is amazing, easily just as good looking as anyhting thats made me drool on the net!

and I am using a COOL WHITE blb for an aqaurium!!!
your  on to something man

which end up looking like this.

straight coir is the ducks nuts for casing.

Beautiful Hanky, beautiful!

And how do you maintain proper humidity levels?

my humidity for fruiting has always been close to 100% in a PMP,lots of people maintain that closer to 80% is better for casings but that hasn't been my experiance.

Lights make the difference. Check out the left side of this casing, which was not directly under the light...... You can easily see the difference. This BTW was a small flouro

Yea! I'm really lovin' the EQ. It's a little slower than I'm used to in regards to colonizing the substrate, but the wait pays off with beautiful shrooms (and a lot of 'em)!

Well, I won't be able to give you a wet weight because my scale is out of order for the next 2 days. You'll just have to wait, but here are some pics before harvest and then the actual harvest itself. I only harvested 2 of the casings because the other 2 have some tic-tacs that need a bit more time.

I decided not to let these go for a second flush because I have 2 pints of B+ colonized and 2 pints of Pink Buffalo colonized.  Expect that log next!

Dry weight -- 58.1 grams cracker dry. So, about 14.5 grams per casing.

Thanks everyone!

Okay, I sterilize my coir by placing it in the microwave for 10 minutes on high. I also mix it all up at the 5 minute mark. I'm going to go a little longer next time though, like 15 minutes and mixing at 7.5 minutes.

I strongly recommend straight coir over 50/50 coir/verm. IME, colonization is much more even thus producing a better pin set!

Thanks nife and NewSpore!
