Retro video game recommendations
    #21939689 - 07/13/15 10:28 PM (8 years, 8 months ago)

I just bought a retro trio. If you aren't familiar it's a console that plays nes, snes, and genesis games with the original cartridge.

I think I'm gonna return it though to get the retron 5, which is an upgraded version of the same thing. It plays nes, snes, genesis, famicom, super famicom, gameboy, gameboy color, and gameboy advance. It also has a built in game genie, and a screen filter that simulates an old fashioned crtv.

So what video games can you recommend me for the retron 5? Of course i won't be able to get a lot of rarer games, but atm i have jurassic park for genesis, sonic 2, festers quest for nes, sim city for snes.

I can't remember all the classics i used to have ,so I'm sure a lot of suggestions will be ones I've played and forgotten about. I want to get the original zelda and castlevania games, but im drawing a blank on what else to get. I doubt I'll be able to find any famicom games, but if i can I'll definitely pick up whatever i can, just to see the what it was like.

Toejam and earl is one I've been keeping my eyes out for.
Jurassic park chaos edition was my fav as a kid. Will buy asap.
Battletoads i will definitely buy asap.
Same with all the mario games.(really want mario rpg, I've been craving a good rpg for a while)

I've been watching a ton of angry video game nerd, if you've ever seen it, i will buy any of the shitty games I've seen him review just for the lulz.

I know the Genesis could play master system games, and you said that retron console can play genesis games, but that doesn't necessarily mean it can play master system games. (kind of like how the org DS could play gba games but not gbc games)
If it can play master system games though, get "Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap". It's the best side scroller i've played to this day.

I just bought a game on ps4 called axiom verge. It's lile the original metroid games, its a ton of fun if you lile those. Would almost call it a ripoff, but since i don't have any Nintendo hardware at the moment, it fills the metroid shaped hole in my soul.

http://www.roguebasin.com/index.php?title=Alphaman

man I loved alphaman. It's a roguelike game that could have come out in the 80's but was released in 95 so often overlooked. I wished there was an easier version, if you ever play it, lingering killer bee poison is the reason you'll loose.

Still lots of fun.

I decided to put odf the retron 5 for a mgs4 collectors ps3 bundle. Retron 5 can wait, but I'll keep my eue out for any rarer or obscure retro games that might not come around twice.

If you like platformers even just a little bit, get Donkey Kong Country 1,2 and 3 for the SNES. They are by far the best platformers on that console, DKC 2 being the best of the trilogy. Somewhat darker and way harder than the other ones. They look pretty and the soundtracks, especially for DKC 2, are really great. I Sometimes I put on some of the songs because they're that good.

I really have to restrain myself, I could keep posting great songs from the OST.

Never had a sega or nintendo system growing up, played with ZX spectrums and amiga's before the whole PC master race.

That said, I have a playstation 3 with double dragon and street fighter on it. I so want to play metal slug on it. I just have metal slug 3 for PC.
