OWATONNA — Charges were filed Wednesday against an Owatonna man after police report he was found passed out in a parked vehicle covered in money and narcotics.
Kerry Bittrich, 25, was charged with first-degree controlled substance possession for having more than 25 grams of methamphetamine and a previous controlled substance conviction. The count carries a sentence of between four and 40 years in prison and fines up to $1 million. At his initial appearance Wednesday, he was granted a public defender, and Judge Karen Duncan set bail at $50,000 with conditions or $100,000 without.
According to the complaint, officers were called at about 11:20 a.m. Tuesday on a welfare check to Dartts Park, where city work crews reported they were unable to wake up a man in a silver SUV. Officers arriving on scene ran the license plate of the vehicle and determined it was registered to Manuel Hinojosa, 32, who has an outstanding warrant for first-degree narcotic sales.
The complaint states that inside the vehicle, officers observed a man later identified as Bittrich passed out in the front seat. From outside, the officers could see a large amount of money on Bittrich’s lap, a black fixed-blade knife on the back seat, a clump of plastic bags with a white crystalline substance in the center console armrest and a collapsible baton at the man’s feet.
Officers saw the man awaken when city crews dropped a cement post. Thee man appeared dazed and confused. Officers rapped on the glass, opened the side door and asked the man to exit the vehicle, after which he was secured in a patrol vehicle.
After a K-9 team arrived and alerted on the vehicle, officers searched the vehicle and found a silver bag on the driver’s side floor containing 3.47 grams of a substance field-tested positive for methamphetamine, $1,130 cash on the driver’s seat, two plastic bags containing 18.41 and 6.16 grams of apparent meth in the center console, an orange prescription bottle containing 39 pills identified as Lorazepam, a schedule 4 narcotic, a glove containing two glass-stemmed pipes on the driver’s-side floor and a metal safe containing unused needles and suspected Psilocybin mushrooms.
Police officials say the current street value of methamphetamine is approximately $100 per gram, which would value the meth reportedly found with Bittrich at over $2,800.
Court records show Bittrich has a prior conviction for third-degree controlled substance possession in a school/park zone in Steele County from 2012. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 3.

At least they got the cash value right this time. IDK the prices there, but he was likely selling it by the gram.

That's what happens when your up for 31 days straight. You pass out with a bunch of money on your lap and drug in plain view, then don't wake up as police surround you and do an entire investigation.
I hope he gets help in jail to get clean.
