Here is the latest on the growth in case anyone is interested. Taken about 10 minutes ago. Still growing strong, but difficult to tell what's going on up top.
Looks like something is turning yellow, but not sure yet about pinning. I'm thinking there would be signs of growth on the plates or on the jars at this point with LM. Hard to see through the condensation though, so still not sure.
Whatever it is, it likes growing. So, that's good.

Probably hard wood pellets heated into sawdust.
There is some mixed sawdust I'm trying to get my hands on but haven't been able to yet. So will probably start there. I have 2 more jars of this that I just put some wedges on a couple nights ago so may try those out on different mediums to see what does best.

here's an update:
I transferred some wedges to a couple other jars. Both colonized almost fully within a week.
The only potential hangup is I'm not sure if the jars are contaminated or if its metabolites. There is something yellow going on.
But, the first jar (from the original post and not pictured here is completely white) and also has some yellowing at the top where it looks like it's trying to pin. It doesn't look like an infection because it stays in 1 place and looks similar to some other lions mane pinning I've seen. But these two jars I'm getting a little wary of. Then again, I'm not sure if it's a characteristic of this strain? Even when the mycelium sat on agar and started to dry out would turn yellowish after it aged a little and then has begun pinning from the agar, but much of it has the same yellowish hue...
Whaddya think guys? Healthy metabolites or yellow mold...? I'll give it a good shake and report back later, but let me know if anyone has any similar experience!
FYI first jar is almost ready to be transferred to sawdust. Will update on that shortly.

I'm not so sure that's lions mane anymore. At first it looked like it could be. But it seems much more thick than I would expect it to be.
Also, not so sure that yellowing is all metabolites. The last couple pics don't show much in terms of metabolite liquid beads on the mycelium, but the mycelium itself is yellowing. So I dunno wtf that is. There seems to be a bit of extra moisture in your jars as well.
Should be interesting to see what you get when you transfer to blocks and grow it out.

I am also having the same thoughts. Very confused at this point.
I probably will have to make a couple different substrates. One wood and one coir. I've gotta get to the bottom of this! It's keeping me up at night not knowing.

That looks fantastic!
Still not sure about this one. Going to transfer to some substrate next week. We'll see.

Put 1 jar on straw tonight.
Next two are going on sawdust for one and coir on the other.
I'll post pics when I have something.

Hey, so what happened? Also, where have you found any good substrates for wood lovers? You think pellets and straw would work for lion's mane? With maybe some coir?

Pellets work great for lions mane.
OP what happened with those jars? Was it LM?
