Depleted LC?
    #21705476 - 05/21/15 07:46 AM (8 years, 10 months ago)

Is it possible for a nutrient solution such as an LC to become "fully colonized" and depleted of available nutrients to competitor organisms?

In other words imagine using food coloring as an indicator in your lc. From doing this with agar I have seen mycelium break down the color from colonized sections. Your lc is fully colonized when it turns clear. Its not that simple but that's the idea.

This isn't a practical idea but I am just curious. Could you deplete an lc of available nutrients to the point where you could go directly lc>coir without risking food for anything to germinate on?

I'm sure it would have to be a large aggressive mycelium mass to survive long enough to recover from stress and grab a foothold but we know mycelium can behave this way by doing LI's and slurries

Use a low amount of sugar in your LC to begin with and there would be minimal left over. Workman recommends just 0.1-0.5% malt extract LC, works very well.
