Hi. My mate used to grow shroms on abrown rice, vemuculate cakes everything was great but this time his going for rye grain, casing method. Hes wondering if he can use same terrarium he was using for br. verm. cakes? Nothing different with rye grain?

What kind of terrarium is it?

Why case it, why not spawn to a bulk substrate?

The pot pie shaped cake was just straight cased rye grains in a sgfc...the tall one is rye spawned to bulk (1:1) that I dropped and ended up putting in a beer pitcher then fruiting it in my SGFC ...but yeah as previously mentioned why not spawn to bulk in a monotub, it's soooooo much more efficient.

Thanks LocN9ne for your help. Im spawing it to bulk today. Today i'm only doing it for 1 jar, for testing and I also have only one 100% colonized jar others are quit behind as they done at different time.

I bought a few things today (see pic) to do it but I got a bit lost, I don't know thats the better way to do it now of what I have. I bought 1 clear bigger box, 1 clear smaller box with a green lid and also foil trays. At first I was planning something like this, mixing my bulk sub together and puting it into foil tray, cover it up, wait until it fully colonizes and then put it into that bigger clear box (which will be made shotgun t way). But then I red that many people put mixed myc with bulk sub straight into mono tube, wait until colonizes and just get that mono tub into light for fruiting, changing taped holes for filter. So I was thinking now to make a small monotube from that smaller box with a green lid, put everthing in that box and when it fully colonizes put that small box inside that bigger box with perlite and shotgun type holes. But that will be like monotube inside shotgun terarium and I havent saw any of these  The thing is I don't want to use just a smaller box as a mono tube as its to small and the shrooms propably will hit the top. So what is my best option? Buy a new box and make a proper higher mono tube in which I put my mixed myc/bulk straight away, wait until it colonizes and fruit it from it. Or shoould I put my mix into any container for colonization and then put it into shotgun terarium?

Thanks

Do not put a monotub inside a shotgun... That break the function of both...

Pick one or the other... I'd recommend a monotub if it is a large substrate and a SGFC if fruiting cakes.

Yeah like GreenRabbit said...just cut the holes in your bigger tub to make it a mono...you can use different ratios for your bulk...you can take that one jar and spawn 1:1...1:2...1:5... to bulk... what do you plan on using to spawn to?

I'm using coir/verm (Damion5050's Coir Tek)

If i use monotub does the all substance has to be inside just straight in that tub? Or can I use like foil tray and put it inside that mono tub? As that box is way too big to use for one jar mix alone

Spawn it into your smaller tub then cover it with foil... that'll leave you time to get the other tub...after it'd colonized you can add the other tub on top when you go to fruit it...

A dubtub is just a monotub with higher walls. The holes are the same as a monotub just with more distance between top and bottom holes.
