It might also be because there is not enough humidity.

In other words, anything can cause bruising, Driving the van around, playing music in the van, suffocation, over misting, under misting, looking at the mushrooms sideways, a surprise visit from the mushrooms mother in law, a mushroom pregnancy scare, anything that would stress out a mushroom can bruise it.

Man do you ever follow a tek whole for whole? Ive seen this and your little shit experiment. If this is a novelty grow I understand but damn lol :smirk:

I've only ever grown once, If you were talking to me, and even though I only have grown once, I don't plan on ever following a tek word for word.

If you're a painter, you're not just going to copy the mona lisa 27 times. I mean sure it works and looks pretty but that's not fun...

I'll probably follow a tek word for word with my next grow, for a couple jars maybe, but after I get a decent amount of mushies stockpiled, nah, I don't plan on copying any teks.

I have an idea of using cereal as substrate too, just for shits and giggles, like some cheerios or chex mix mushrooms, considering their made from oats, and rice flour.

Edit: Grown right, totally posted this in the wrong thread xD

I more of meant loud bass really, I mean, if you got some subwoofers in your van that's gotta cause some damage to the cakes.

Right on man  :gocrythen:
And hell yeah man a chex mix grow would be pretty funny. It reminds me of the tortilla chip tek I saw here a few days ago. I thought about replicating it but with 'Mary's Gone Crackers' theyre some organic crackers I picked up the other day and noticed the ingredients: whole grain brown rice, whole grain quinoa, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, brown flax, brown sesame seeds, and poppy seeds. figured mushies would love that

I'm just going to revamp my entire chamber. I found a 2'x1'x1' sterilite container that should suffice. I drilled 44 1/8" holes, approx. 1/2" apart,  3/4" under the lid around the container. Filled it  3" with perlite to soak and will be transferring the cake in about two hours from now. Any other tips or suggestions?
My buddy has my ultrasonic humidifier and my heater; should I get a hold of these or should it do fine without it?

Again, thanks guys. You're most likely saving me from crying over my dead cake.

It's not tortilla chips, it's just tortilla's, I'd imagine the oil, and the salt that's left in the chips from frying would cause an issue, is there salt on those crackers you mentioned? and that same thread, Is actually what inspired me, into my quest to discover weird shit (literally sometimes)

I like doing weird shit in all other parts of my life too, I don't know why. I'm just in general a strange person.

Especially after getting straight manure inoculated, when everyone told me it wouldn't work, and to just throw it away, it worked, so thus began my quest.

I wouldn't brother with a ultra sonic humidifier or heater, waste of money in my opinion.
Just make your new chamber and if the temp is good for you it's good for the cubes.

Huge difference from yesterday, although unfortunately in a negative aspect. It was definitely bruising.
I changed chambers and let it go overnight. I've experienced withdrawal of the mycelia and the cake seems to be kind of dry... Side by side comparison would definitely catch the eye.

New chamber:

What were your indicators that it was "stressed" or "suffocating"? It seemed to have been doing much better in my tiny little chamber.

Your cake seems kind of dry because there's more air in the chamber to dry it out. Mist the cake more.

Yeah, after looking again I can definitely see the grey contams in question.

It's most likely the lighting; It became apparently blue in the light.
It personally looks to me like it just dried out a bit and receded from low humidity over night. I'm thinking that the fruiting chamber, with the cake being the only thing in there, may just be too big to create the ideal environment.

I see now where you're getting the grey contam from with that picture. It's definitely the lighting; the cake was lit with direct sunlight in the picture and the "grey" is just shadowing. It's definitely not that grey; I would have tossed it immediately.
