need help investing in a quality agar/petri setup

New to the hobby, finally got a couple quality grows under me but I'd like to jump into agar cloning next and get consistency nailed down.
Questions are;
What size and kind of petri dishes? Is investing in glass worth it? How many should I be buying for a set that will last me a while?
Thank you.

I would suggest trying a no pour agar method for noobs like pasty's agar tek. If you wanted to do a pour method then yes I would say glass is worth the investment, perhaps the three sector ones if you desire.
The amount of plates depends on how big you plan on going, but I would buy at least a few dozen to feel comfortable.

What size dishes would you get? 150 mm x 25mm?

i don't think glass is worth the investment. slippery, and the lids are not tight around the bottom, so they are difficult to wrap. they are expensive to buy, and to ship (weight)
100mm plastic plates is my favorite. i don't like the sectioned ones, but some people prefer them. i just put 3 cultures on one plate if I'm trying to save space, etc.
with non sectioned plates, u get more agar innoculant per plate, to do more jars, or more wedge per jar
id buy 100 for starters. buying sleeve for sleeve gets expensive.

You make some good points. I'm not a fan of glass myself, nor do I like the sector plates but a lot of people like them.

I use plastic petri dishes as well. They work perfect, they come in sterile so there is no need to put them in the pc. They are also realy cheap, I buy mine for 10 euro cents each.

Parafilm is also a good investment. It's quite expensive at first, but you can go a long time with one rol. Also, a good scalpel is also something which is very useful and quite cheap.

I would also do the no-pour starting out. I use Glad mini-rounds or the Betty Crocker ones that are the same size (the BC lids seem better suited).
Pasty's Easy Agar link in my sig it's pretty hard to fuck up if you follow the tek...

Please dont complicate agar its one of the easiest things to do. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/20947447#20947447
Glass dishes suck. You only need a SAB you can build out of cardboard and saran wrap or go more classy if u want

Who is complicating it? All I see are suggestions in response to OP'S questions about agar

I like to keep it really simple too. I do pasty's no pour method. It's really simple, easy, cheap, there's no waste as everything is reusable, and doesn't require waiting for your agar to cool and all that shit. If you want to look closely at the culture without opening it, just take a flashlight and move it around so you can see better (because the top of the container is blue).
Here's all I use for agar:
- a bunch of PP5 "twist n lock" containers (aka pasty plates). I don't drill any holes for GE and polyfil though. I find it works fine without them. I just slightly loosen the top and cover with foil before PCing so they don't collapse under the pressure of the PC. The only thing I don't like about these containers is that they take up so much space in the fridge. But once you find a good culture, just put it on a slant and save space. - xacto blade or scalpel - alcohol lamp ($10 from amazon) - gloves - still air box (just a clear tote with 2 arm holes. no crazy stuff going on here) - 70% iso alcohol
