Grafting Experiment. Lopho ? epiphylliums.

Inspiration from Una?s post: Cactus seedling grafting...here's how to do it: and felixhigh ?i'm using epiphylliums instead with amazing success so far...?

I will be trying 2 graft two 6 month old Lophophora onto some hybrid epiphyllums.

Epiphyllums are fast growing and can be grown at higher humidity than your norm cacti.

I believe the epiphyllums would prove to be a great stock cacti for Lophophora allowing more frequent watering and feeding than you can with your average stock plants.

I will provide pictures throughout the process and regular updates so everyone can experience the process with me. At this stage any advise or experience would be nice. I have never grafted before.!

the 'leafless' stems are the best parts! i think they occur in rather shady spots where epiphyphillium grows.
happily you can cut them a lot down from the top (well, not on its 'feet'), just not right at the tip like with most columnar rootstocks, so you can find a spot on the 'arm' where your scion will fit well.
other than that, i've grafted something to its areoles easily. *on unrooted clippings*.
i don't know why but i can't seem to graft cacti buttocks, but all tips had success.
best luck!
i should try the same with the pups birth now in summer here in the south hemisphere!

post script:
no attachment! even superglue, nothing seems better even for areoles.
it seems i've grafted mammilaria bocasana to my epi!
i've had some problem rooting some cuttings, other rooted quick, i think people have seen it happen to pereskiopsis (jojoba)...
