First try, first fail. Words of encouragement?

My first grow and just had to toss my tub due to Trich. I did BRF cakes and spawned most to a coir tub. The tub was nearly fully colonized and I was going to start fruiting conditions this next week, but I noticed Trich yesterday. It was much worse today, so out the door it went. I still have two cakes from this batch going in another small fc that are on their 2nd flush and looking great.
Did I just have poor sanitation going to the tub? Dirty spawn? Just bad luck? Or all the above? Any words of encouragement for me?
I've already got more BRF cakes going and may just stick to a sgfc for them. WBS and agar soon though!

I started with brf cakes as well and practiced with those for a good month or 2 before starting my first wbs jars, never tried spawning the cakes to bulk though. 3/4 of my first tubs went green so I know the feeling. Keep at it bro and you'll get some good flushes
Also agar fucking rocks and can be done easily and cheaply with Pasty Plates: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/19208976

It was most likely the spawn , as is usually the case when you get trich before first flush
Try again man use agar and grains!!!

Get agar, a still box, a pressure cooker, and some whole oats or wbs.
Keep at it.

Also, just look at it from a different perspective. You learned not to do that again and still got experience in growing. I guess if the only intent is fruits, then yes it's a failure. But even so, there are hidden gems. It's not always the destination but the journey that elevates us and helps us to grow. It is no different in this case.
Your time will come and your fruits will be awesome. We got your back here.

Maybe all or none of the above? BRF to bulk is tricky because it takes longer to recover which increases the chance for tam. If you insist on cake>bulk most will recommend splitting the cakes into several mini casings (pie tin) rather one tub. This way if one tams you still have the others to provide a harvest.
Inanycase, if you want to transition to bulk make a batch of LC (or myc slurry from a cake) and learn grain. It really isn't too difficult, in fact after the first run it'll be easy.
One last tip. Always remember to wear a medical/bacterial mask when doing sterile work or mixing sub. There is a huge amount of contamination living in the lung/mouth system which gets breathed out onto grain/sub etc without a mask. Doesn't have to be expensive or anything special a cheap mask will work fine.

What a lovely post, I'll remember that when I get the Trich. Best of luck OP.

Don't give up OP! I had ordered 3 bunk syringes, on 3 separate times... for my first 3 grows! I eventually got it, and so will you! The more you try, the more you learn. Good luck OP!

If at first you don't succeed, try - try again. Rome wasn't built in a day, and failure is a stepping stone to success.

No personal experience with cakes, but my very first (hasty) attempt at cultivation using a noob-ass, sloppily made Monotub went well as you say yours did until days before fruiting it developed an extreme infection of the trich variety..... Needless to say I buried that monster in the back yard. I had actually hoped it would grow shrooms from the ground where I buried it but some ants carried it all away in like 2 days. Damn I bet those ants were tripping balls lmfao!!!
Went back to the drawing board, actually invested some time in thoroughly researching and learning everything I possibly could, and when I tried again I ended up with like a pound of shrooms a month or two later. It is extremely rewarding and totally worth it. Don't give up yet!!!
P.S. Excellent sterile technique is paramount! If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right...

LOL. I'm on it. Been spending my time doing more research the past few days and making up some petri dishes tonight. I'm a brewer and have done a few yeast experiments on agar before, so hopefully it goes as smoothly as with yeast.

Keep at it man. I lost my first four tubs when trying bulk to trich. On the fifth right now and it's looking good so far. Some of these posts in here by theeaglesgift and feedyourmind are spot on. The posts in this thread are good advice. Just keep it up and do your research.

I've lost quite a few projects to contamination. Life is full of failures. You have to just say fuck it, and keep trying. Fuck failure, be persistent.
