Good thinkin. I personally prefer to have syringes made up rather than fumble around with G2G inside my little glovebox.

I hear ya ...
I started putting SHIP in some of my grain jar lids. Makes things easy.
Seems the Blue SHIP are junk and fall apart quick.
I've used these reds ones with dozens of jabs from a 22ga. needle.

Congrats man! Any chance we will get some pin porn to look at in the future?
Aren't the red SHIPs deep well and the blue regular? I think thats why they last longer.
A 250ml erlenmyer flask with rubber stoppers would be ideal! You can stab those things dozens of times and still get a perfect seal, the 24/40 are big enough to inject two needles so putting a syringe filter for GE would be possible if you got creative. Put a magnetic teflon stir bar in it before sterilization and you can just throw it on a magnetic stirplate.

Sure thing on the pin porn! Soon as I get enough grains pawn to do a grow. Either be a straw log or laundry basket grow. I just seen some medium size laundry baskets at dollar store for $1 !!!
And as a matter of fact I happen to have a 250ml erlenmeyer flask. I will order a stopper this week. That's a great idea!
I think I will start a grow log for the Pearl Oysters. I also have Maitake, Shiitake with Blue & Pink Oysters LC's on the way to play around with. Will also be making a bunch of agar plates.
PS - Yes, I believe you are correct on the SHIPs.

I think paul stamets "medicinal and gormet mushrooms" has an illustrated guide on how to culture in erlenmeyers. That guy is so useful even if some of his cubensis growth parameters are outdated.

Here are the g2g'd jars just under 3 days...
I like the way things are going.
I have another master I am going to do some transfers to agar later today.
Been trying to have success with agar for a while now. Come to find out I had bought the stuff that was mostly sugar and couldn't figure out why I couldn't get any growth....lol.
Now I have the "Telephone" agar and should be good to go. I am also going to use honey instead of Karo. I figure the natural antibiotic properties of honey would be a good route to go.
I may start a regular grow log thread eventually to show the progress.
Here is a picture of day 3 after g2g.....

They are looking pretty good! Have you shaken or are you going to shake? Its nicely distributed.
Do you have problems with using older jar lids? Yours look really worn down.

Thanks.....lol... no I had to really dig to find these lids. Has just bought new ones buy they are already in use. Kinda a last minute thing. To answer your questions, the old rusty lids work just fine, just look bad...lol.
And I haven't shaken yet. Just once when I did the transfers. I will probably give them one shake in the next day or two.
I plan on either doing a straw log, or one of those small laundry baskets at the dollar store for a $1... can't beat that for price...
Also knocked up some Maitake on oats. and I have a two new cultures... another Maitake and a Pink oyster. Can't wait to get some fruits to eat!!

Here is my other master grain jar (whole oats) that I made from the same culture. It was such a small piece of wedge I had left I wasn't sure it would take. Boy was I mistaken...not the first time....lol.
I am going to make a bunch of agar plates tonight.
The oyster mycelium really seems to like these oats. I am amazed at how fast these have colonized.

I finally got some of the right agar. And am ready to put some colonized grains to agar. The last agar I mistakenly bought had a bunch sugar added.
This "Honey Syrup" (yes that's what it is...lol) came from dollar store.
It consists of: (High Fructose Corn Syrup, Corn Syrup, & Honey)
Should work just fine... it's basically Karo with honey added...
I will include a small photo log of making the plates for anybody interested.

Personally I would use something different than honey; if I'm not mistaken it has anti fungal properties which wouldn't be ideal. I use light malt extract from a brew shop. Sugar in the raw would also work and is widely available. Potato water is a fine nutrient source and apparently so is dog food. I also add bread yeast for nutrition

I thought it was anti-bacterial properties... but I could be mistaken.
I see LC and agar recipes that use honey... wonder why that is?
edit: did some more reasearch... the stuff I have should work just fine.

I'm looking forward to seeing results from this plan.
I myself have a pearl oyster clone from the store on agar, and I'm still not decided on how to bring it to fruiting. I'm gonna make two master WBS jars, but after that I'm not sure. I want to break up some old moldy logs from my backyard into chunks and pasteurize, mixed with straw perhaps...
Do you have experience with edibles? Also which tek do you plan on following if you go the straw log route?

1 st edibles but have a couple years experience with others. Oysters are supposed to be one of the easiest edibles to grow.
I plan on doing some straw logs in bags and some small laundry basket tek.
Also have some Maitake spawn going... plan on doing those on woodchips & sawdust with some wheat bran.

Sounds good! I'll probably be adding spent coffee grounds to my straw logs. I'll let you know how my stuff goes, in case you're interested.

Not a whole lot more to post right now.
I am making up 6 agar plates to do some experimentation and inoculate some more jars.
These Betty Crocker brand PP5 containers are the bomb. The lids fit better than the regular mini-rounds. They cost 4/$1.
I am using a 1/4" hole stuffed with poly-fil for my GE filter.
Agar will be PC'd @ 15psi for 20 minutes.
I will be making some straw logs very soon and will post the process in more detail.
Sorry it is going slow. I've been pretty busy lately.

Sorry it's been so long for update. I have has a bad flu and really set me back. I was so sick I could hardly move for several days.
I still have spawn jars, but the are showing metabolites in the jar bottoms.
I'm making some plates from the old tissue and hopefully will be able to get some clean wedges.
Only positives are I'm feeling better & my maitake grain spawn is coming along good.
I have 2 spawn jars of the Pearl oysters that are just white with no major metabolites. I am attempting to do a growin a mini-laundry basket. Also may try some bags.

Well made a mini-straw basket... the grains were colonized to the point of what was spongy mycelium almost like mushroom tissue. Smelled okay still. Will have to wait a few days and see. That pearl oyster myc. is quick as hell though. Got away from me when I was down sick. DAMN.
