I've used marbles, and broken glass. Wouldn't trade my magnetic stir plate and stirbars in for all the marbles and broken glass in the world.
Thanks for the info! I didn't know there were things like this in the world. Looks like it makes life easier.

LC's are an all or nothing art form. There's about 1-2 ways to do them right, every time. If one LC is contaminated, EVERY substrate said contaminated LC inoculates will become contaminated.
Reason;
LC grows culture 3 dimensionally through out the medium. That's how LC's are the most contam-risk media of all culturing media. If there are ANY contamination present, they can grow 3-D too. Mold strains have an advantage over colonizing mushroom mycelium. A mold's culture grows faster than mushroom myclium in a tree like pattern once germinated. Dropping 10-12 spores off of every new branch's end generated by the mold culture.
Solution;
Develop clean liquid media coupled with bullet-proof sterile technique. Succeed with LC's every time.
Fast. Simple. Easy. Effective.

No.
Blunt dispensing needles are flat headed. Injection needles are pointy tipped. Injection ports can be injected through with injection needles safely. Blunt dispensing needles are used by removing the media vessel closure.

liquid culture lunch pack from agar/6tango/mycota
cloudy soak water
strained for sediment
before and after coffee filter
after 1:4 dilution as mentioned in op. held up to light. then regular picture.
wiped the cobwebs off my stirplate! hello old friend.
and the culprits. 2003 stropharia, 2007 syzygy, 2007 burma, 2008 ape, 2009 treasure coast.
i have a pearl and blue oysters from a great vendor from 2007 stored in the fridge. that colonized plates in 3 days with a drop of solution that i would put to lc but one syringe can make an unlimited amount and i have about 6 plates of the oysters waiting for me to clear up some space for them to come to life. extremely vigorous growth stored in a liquid culture syringe for 8 years.
