the hardscrabble farm.

That is the name of our organic food farm. We are nestled on four acres of land that had been mined 15-20 years ago. And is at the end of a 4,000 acre quarry, of which a couple hundred may be active.

That being said we over the past 2 summers have slashed and burned the three acres that had trees. The first year we did half and planted half and this last summer we cleared the rest while farming the already cleared land. Being in a quarry we are on top of clay and sand. We brough in over 8 feet of 40 different soils and ammendments that settled to 3 feet thick, by hand in hundreds of five gallon buckets, every couple days would be a differenr soil or ammendment, we will have to do this again, furthur up the hill this summer for the newly cleared land.

I just orderes 117 vegetable packets and 64 herb packets along with 54 flower packets, about 8 of us all ordered this amount of seeds. We have three 53 foot trailers dug into the ground, two full of tools and the other has a library, seed library, stove to cook, woodburning stove a piano some chairs and an old guitar, what else would we have in there lol.

We also own a quarter mile or so long if not longer island on a quarter mile wide river, with slow moving water because we are a mile up stream from a dam, the island is 30-100yarda wide. We are planning on making the island from end to end a mushroom farm.

I will post pictures, but there is five-six feet of snow out there right now. Ill also make a post with pictures and explaining everything we are doing when the spring gets buzzing along.

Future plans are bees, i want to do grapes for wine. A woodworking shop, raise quail and pheasant. And whatever the future may hold.

You could use the downstream to generate electricity.

Nice plans!
