Camplo's CJar's

Lol, I had to do this... Don't Judge me.

You are looking at an Oster blender blade sitting on a rubber gasket thats about 2.625" OD and 1" ID(1/8th thick). The gasket is glued to the blender blade base by clear rtv silicon. A layer approximately 1/8th thick was applied to surface between gasket, blade, as well as between, gasket and glass bottom to fill voids and create seal.

First and foremost the hole must be made in the bottom of the jar. The hole was drilled using a 1" glass and tile drill bit. While drilling keep firm pressure on the bit to make sure the hole stays true to the shape of the bit. The goal is a hole that is roughly 3/8th's of an inch, just large enough to fit in the bit of a drill.

Do not use a 3/8th inch glass and tile bit to drill the 3/8th hole other wise you won't have perfectly smooth and beveled sides, and unless you use a drill press and vice, you don't want the bit to have to go all the way through (trust me on that one).

The jar is a gallon glass pickle jar from walmart...~4
Oster blades were ordered from ebay...~3
Oster Blender from walmart...`15
Rubber gaskets were from a plumbing store...~1.50
1inch Glass and Tile drill bit from menards... ~15
Clear RTV from menards...~4

Lid can be prepared to taste. The lids have rubber gaskets already. I think that the silicon adhesive used to adhere the blade and gasket could be a long term bond as long as care is taken in the handling and operation of the blade. I have had the liberty to tear one apart and it took more than a little effort to pull apart. You could potentially use this device to do a number of task. What do you think it would be best used for?

ps-Umm if you have poor sterile technique, stay far, faaarrr away from this device! lmao!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 2 - Build a flow hood. You could work with gallon jars in a SAB but why?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 3 - Destroy the plastic shroud from around the blender base so you can sit jar on top. I tried to create a drive shaft but after much trial and error, this is what I went with.

cool shit.. So you actually drilled the glass instead of modifying the lid.
Sick!

One less contam vector. Only have to add sterilized water.

The coolest thing, I think, about this device, is that you could put a number of ingredients in an amount of water, inoculate with lc, or ls, stir and then let colonize, repeat until fully colonized, then spawn to something like cvg.

I was thinking in doing something like this for LI and then drill a hole in the lid for a inoculation gun.

Can you take a video of this in action? It sounds pretty gnarly, but wouldn't you have to basically destroy the actual blender base to get it to fit on there?

this. I can't even use a widemouth jar because it won't sit down on mechanism.

Sounds creative. Could also use something like a stir bar over a small box fan. Sounds like making a yeast starter for home brewing.

Screw the drill. Get a 1/4 inch socket extention to raise the jar up over the motor and use the blender motor.
Drills don't reach anywhere near the same rpm as a blender.
Drills work decent, but I go for the blender myself.

And be careful with a drilled jar. If it shatters while blending you don't want to lose a finger!

Drills suck from my experience (although I have a weaker drill) and a huge jar like a gallon would just throw the agar/whatever back upward. I'd love to see a video of this working.

That is a good idea about the socket extension...
and yes, a drill does suck compared to a blender lol.

Honestly I don't really fuck with any of this slurry shit on a regular basis.

Sometimes I will blend a plate if it looks like I won't have G1s ready to keep
things fed but to me its value  ispretty overrated.. This forum tends to run
off the hive mind & when something catches it takes over for a little while.

Nevertheless it is a good tool to have at your disposal.

I wonder how I will adjust the receiving substrate for the large amount of water that will come along with everything else. Maybe just keep adding prepped dried substrate until at field capacity?

I was also considering why and how to do my lc's, which I'd make to inoculate the c-jars but I just came to the conclusion that making a separate lc to inoculate the c-jar would be redundant and just inoculating straight from agar makes the most sense. One less transfer means one less contam vector. One thing I like about this idea is that the mechanics of the agar transfer is much more glove box friendly, as some of us know, glovebox success rate goes up with proper technique. Proper technique for a glovebox means things like; make the smallest movements possible as well as the least amount of movements possible. Transferring straight from agar instead of having to make a lc or li and preparing a syringe for said lc/lc, is very glovebox friendly and less work all around. The c-jar already has the growth potential and benefits of the average LC container. No need to make plain lc anymore!

So far I have ms to agar, and shortly I will do a transfer from agar to c-jar. It took 4 days for a significant amount of growth to show on my agar. My agar didn't set right for some odd reason ( I know this now after I accidentally dropped it) so its jelly like on top, hard on bottom, but non the less the myc is slowly crawling through it, should be a good genetic screening from the get go. I made agar from white rice grain water.

So my plan is to inoculate the c-jar with a tiny piece of colonized agar jelly. I am not sure what recipe I will use in the c-jar itself but, I have white rice, rye grain, soy flour, brown rice flour, and I plan on getting some malt. Might be a good idea to ph adjust the concoction too. As long as my sterile technique is tight (it is) I could literally put just about anything in the c-jar. Sterilize for 2 or more hours, Camplo jar for the win!...or at least that's the idea!

ps- any thoughts? ideas?
