I have given it a try. I felt the same way.  The series has been on a downward spiral since BF3 maybe before.

If you want the "true" battlefield experience you have to check out Battlefield 2 , BF 1942 or BF 2142 (2142 is my favorite). . The issue with them right now is EA no longer supports them and didn't provide a fix once gamespy went down.
You can still play them you just need to jump through hoops to get it to work.

If you are looking for a different "realistic" military simulation check out Arma 3 just make sure your PC will be able to run it the game looks great on ultra .

I don't see what all the hoopla is about CoD. CoD has sucked since MW2. MW1 was great and everything before it. Now everything is an arcade run around shoot 'em fast paced bullshit with little fuckers talking shit on the mic.

Bf4 is my go to game, i'll play other games for a few weeks when they're released but always return to bf4. The hardline beta just felt like a rehashed version of bf4 rather than a completely new game, possibly even a dlc (like fifa's world cup addon last summer) so to me I won't be able to justify buying it.

it's been downhill since BF:BC2 and BF:BC2:Vietnam, which was a fantastic and underrated game.

I never could get into COD other than Zombies.  Way too fast paced for me.  There is something to be said about the teamwork, vehicle, and strategy aspect of battlefield.  Its not a game that you can just jump in and get kill streaks.  ts about working as a unit and playing to everyone's strengths.  It can sometimes be a rather slow-paced experience compared to COD but I enjoy it much more.

I've played every COD and Battlefield ever made.  Battlefield 4 is my go-to game.  Carrier Assault is so awesome.  Has COD changed at all over the past 8 years?  seems like they just keep putting out the same game with different maps?

COD doesnt change because it found a succesful formula and stuck with it. Ive never seen "teamwork" in any FPS game: you just jump in and start blasting.
