A crook ran off with the money.

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.” (attributed to Alexis de Tocqueville political philosopher Circa 1835)

Currencies aren't commodities.
Furthermore, this isn't just "any currency."

After the economic collapse, we'll see who can buy bread. Me (with programmable BTC) or you, with fake dollars.

Then I'll pay someone for electricity, or try and establish it myself. What are you trying to suggest?

I don't understand your point.
I still enjoy sending money peer-to-peer as opposed to through a third part institution.

How would you pay someone if your money is in BTC?

Bitcoin is a third party

Bitcoin itself is of course a party institution. But that doesn't mean it operates like a third party institution.

Uhm, but how is BTC in practice a third party? You use your computer to process the transaction (as opposed to a bank's or government's computer), and you send your money directly to the recipient.

BItcoins are only used as a means to transfer other currencies, dollars, yen, etc. Therefore they are a third party

Party of the first part  Seller
Party of the second part  Buyer
Party of the third part  Bitcoin

The only transaction that avoids a third party would be a direct barter.

The best  currency a person can have in any situation that leave the dollar totally worthless will be your labor .  5 strong young boys who like to work hard will be the most valuable thing you could possibly have .
